The best sporting event of the year was our Tigers winning the Football National Championship.
I do like the tourney but the major blue bloods almost always make it to the final four. People get too much excitement out of a Cinderella team making the sweet 16 or elite 8 only to then be crushed by a Kansas, UNC, etc...

OP is referring to the end of the week and into the weekend. So many games going on all day does make for the best sporting week of the year.
