What exactly does "dress out" mean?

Nov 5, 2014, 1:04 PM

Does the use of this grammatically disastrous phrase imply that you are somehow on the new frontier of college football terminology?

Same with "show out". What the hell is that?

Isn't "dress out" a pretty old phrase?

Nov 5, 2014, 1:10 PM

It just means that you have the appropriate clothes on for whatever you're doing. We used to say it about putting on your gym clothes for gym: e.g.- "dressing out for gym."

Dress out has been a term used for someone on the sideline, in uniform, for as long as I can remember.
