A smaller arena sends a clear message...

Mar 11, 2015, 4:54 PM

We don't care enough about basketball to put enough of an emphasis on it, that we are going to improve enough to attract more people to come watch the games.

And if by some miracle we do get better and more people want to attend, because we made the arena smaller, we can gouge you with higher ticket prices and donor levels.

So either way, us fans, get the Tiger Administration Shaft.

Duke and some others have done OK with smaller, nicer arenas. Being in the nosebleeds at UNC and NCSU kind of sucks too.

Duke did not downsize.

Georgia Tech did and look at that mess D-Rad left them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GT needed to downsize...

Mar 11, 2015, 5:51 PM

they don't have enough fans. There are more bulldog fans in Atlanta anyway.

It ain't the size of the wand, but the magic in it

Clemsons location makes it hard to get to for mid week games. It would be a GIGANTIC mistake to build a monstrosity like Scar did look how awful that place looks on TV.

I said all along we needed a 10 k max Arena with suites for donors. Spend the money that you would have used on a big facility on player facilities.

12,000 seats

Mar 11, 2015, 5:07 PM

Should be building a brand new building, go up in size slightly, I'm not talking 16-18,000 seats.

Coots building also serves a city metro area of 650,000 people for concerts and events.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 12,000 seats

Mar 11, 2015, 5:11 PM

Why would we add seats exactly?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because it shows you plan on improving

Mar 11, 2015, 5:15 PM

Remember last year in the NIT when littlejohn was slam packed? they were there because the team was winning.

If/when the team improves, more people will come. With a smaller arena, theres nowhere to put them

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Because it shows you plan on improving

Mar 11, 2015, 5:21 PM

Yeah I was there for those games. People also got their early so they could get seats because it was general admission.

But to add 2,000 seats for 3 or 4 possible games/year just doesn't make sense.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

my point was that it would be more than 3 or 4

Mar 12, 2015, 12:43 PM

games per year if the team starts winning

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They had money kicked in from other sources.

Mar 11, 2015, 8:55 PM [ in reply to 12,000 seats ]

Richland and Lexington counties put in money as did the city of Columbia.

I think that we might have a better chance of getting away with it now.

Sure does. The way we shoot people better hang loose and stay alert

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm undecided

Mar 11, 2015, 5:16 PM

about the rebuild. I am happy with the actual look of the arena, but hope we don't ignore player amenities. From what they've said, they should be significant improvements, but I don't know enough to really be able to compare them to other programs.

Re: A smaller arena sends a clear message...

Mar 11, 2015, 5:26 PM

The other side of that coin is to do like the coots and look silly by building something ridiculous that will never be used to anywhere near capacity. Especially with Alabama's money

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just curious what the capacity is at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Mar 11, 2015, 5:29 PM

It is certainly not new and modern.

sorry if politically incorrect but heck - it's Duke.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

8.800 - if it was bigger then Duke would be really good.***

Really? Is that truly what you believe?

Mar 11, 2015, 6:19 PM

So Louisville should have not moved to the 5000 more seat Yum Center.

And the Cheatholes should not have move to 6000 more seat Dean Center.

Don't compare us to the unique situation at Duke, that's just ridiculous.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what message does improved locker rooms and practice

Mar 11, 2015, 8:01 PM

facility send?

serious question:

is a recruit going to care more about how many seats there are in the arena or about the quality of the facilities for the players?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: what message does improved locker rooms and practice

Mar 11, 2015, 8:19 PM

I think the players care more about the amenities rather than the arena. Don't think a total rebuid of LJ was necessary, just some upgrades. Instead the money should've been focused on a state of the art practice facility including locker rooms, weight rooms, lounge, meeting rooms, etc. That's what the players see and use daily. That should've been done when the current practice facility was done, but was screwed up bigtime.

Duke only has 8,000 seats

I guess they don't care about basketball.
