Nov 1, 2019, 10:31 AM

My biz had largest most profitable month ever in October!
Thanks, Trump!

talked to a client in auto parts manufacturing this week.

Nov 1, 2019, 11:07 AM

They make steering components for Cadillacs. He says 3/4 of the Cadillacs made are sold in China. Tariff mess dried all that up last fall and he got laid off. Like the whole rest of the plant, except for a skeleton crew of office people.

China was already taxing our auto exports heavily before

Nov 1, 2019, 1:07 PM

the tariffs. We saw it slow things briefly, but it's since picked back up. If you're an auto parts manufacturer relying on GM you should probably not do that.

to not have to lay him off. Company was gangbusters a few years back and shrinking back to reality*.

*That is not an Obama vs. Trump argument, I just think they may have grown too fast

What do they make?

Nov 1, 2019, 2:31 PM

Biggest problem right now seems to be that the new automotive programs finally have been run off and finished, so component companies are trying to fill that void. The GM strike is hurting suppliers, as well.

Word on the skreet is the Upstate will be getting a new BMW engine plant in the near future.
