Men's tennis hosting #7 North Carolina today at 1, preview

Mar 17, 2019, 10:08 AM

After a pretty bad showing vs Duke on Friday, the men's tennis team will face their stiffest test yet against the #7 team in the nation.

Now the part that nobody expected is that UNC lost a shocker to Georgia Tech on Friday (who we beat 4-3). A truly stunning upset. Have no idea how that result will affect today's match.

UNC projected singles lineup:

1. #47 William Blumberg, Jr. Greenwich, CT
2. #40 Benjamin Sigouin, So. Vancouver, Canada
3. #82 Brian Cernoch, Fr. Rockville, MD
4. #107 Joshua Peck, Jr. Calgary, Canada
5. Bo Boyden, Sr. Raleigh, NC
6. Simon Soendergaard, Jr. Frederikssund, Denmark

Blumberg ranked #47 is misleading. He didn't play the college fall tournaments to get ranking boosting wins and instead played some pro events. He is definitely a top 5 player in the nation and was the NCAA individual runner-up in his Freshman year.

Analysis: It would take a minor miracle for Clemson to win. In fact I would be surprised if we even won 1 match. 7-0 is likely.

And laziness the last few years kinda using the fading facilities as an excuse. But now with new ones there are no more excuses

like a few years ago they have out Clemson tennis

Shirts at a match that literally said "building for the future". As if to say "yeah we know we suck but wait for those new facilities!" Well it's year 1 of the "new era" and this looks to be the worst year of tennis from a combined men's and women's perspective in a while. Needs to be big improvement next year.

They've been shut out in 5 matches thus far and 3 of the last 4. Must be giving scholarships to anyone who can find the tennis facility.

they may lose out for the rest of the season

Should beat Boston College but it's not a given. Could beat Louisville too but every other match is very likely a loss.
