Excuse me David, but there is no such play as the hook and ladder play except in firefighting.

In football, it is the hook (as in one receiver runs a hook pattern) and lateral (as the receiver catches the pass from the quarterback and laterals to the back or other position player) for the ensuing gain on the play. HOOK and LATERAL!!!

Drives me fricking crazy to hear people who should know better to call it the hook & ladder! If your family was/were in firefighting then I can somewhat understand it. But it has never had anything to do with a ladder! It's a lateral to the following p,Ayer coming behind the player who catches the initial pass from the QB.

lateral. It's the hook and lateral.***

It's Correctly Known As the Hook and Lateral

Who knows how the term "ladder" can involved.

Probably the same way "landblasted", "grade of slaw", etc.***
