corporate folks what would you do?

Nov 13, 2018, 10:19 AM

we took a confidential survey a couple of weeks back.

the partnership read the results yesterday. clearly they are not happy with some of the responses.

one of my co-workers got a call from his superior who is in the partnership asking if he knew who would say such a thing.

should my co-worker say anything to our HR guy about the incident?

HR works for the company

Nov 13, 2018, 10:22 AM

and to reduce risk of lawsuits.

They are not on your side

ours is a recently signed 3rd party

Nov 13, 2018, 10:29 AM

it's a new concept around here.

it definitely seemed like a move to protect some. Knowing the dynamics of the group somewhat, if there were something bad marked on this particular player, it would be a good thing for the others.

HR?

The road goes on forever and the party never ends...

So HR will certainly help your coworker

Nov 13, 2018, 10:29 AM

gather as much information to make sure the company is 100% protected when the shiit hits the fan.

it's about to hit the fan already

Nov 13, 2018, 10:33 AM

there is a very distinct awkwardness among everyone.

we have our retreat next week and it's going to be even more awkward in person.

i'll be getting drunk in CLT

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah that happened earlier this year at my firm

Nov 13, 2018, 10:39 AM

one of my partners was forced to resign on the eve of the big shindig...very awkward event especially for those of us evolved in his ouster and those who feared they were the next shoe to drop.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-conservativealex.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are having a partner meeting on the eve of our shindig

Nov 13, 2018, 10:47 AM

everyone is wondering if they would actually do that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So "confidential" doesn't really mean "confidential"?

Nov 13, 2018, 10:33 AM

That seems pretty unethical, at best. And if company took action against somebody who said something in confidence (upon request), that's probably even illegal.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Right

to work state.

Bye Felicia

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

since when is corporate lying illegal?

Nov 13, 2018, 10:34 AM [ in reply to So "confidential" doesn't really mean "confidential"? ]

unless we're talking SEC stuff

I ain't passed the Bar, but I know a lil' bit,

Nov 13, 2018, 10:36 AM

enough that you won't illegally search my shit.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, but what you think is "yours" likely is not "yours"

Nov 13, 2018, 10:40 AM

its either corporate or public.

BTW, I'm not saying I disagree with you

has a lot of problems. But a snitch ain't one.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it's really just the unethical part

Nov 13, 2018, 10:36 AM [ in reply to So "confidential" doesn't really mean "confidential"? ]

dude isn't worried about his job or anything. he just doesn't think it's right to receive a call asking questions about things that were said.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's concerned that it would be held against him if he

Nov 13, 2018, 10:40 AM

doesn't snitch? That's pretty shitty if so.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What the #### are the partners afraid of? You send

Nov 13, 2018, 10:54 AM [ in reply to it's really just the unethical part ]

out a "confidential" survey, ostensibly you are looking for deeper truths than what you're sitting around telling yourselves all the time. Sometimes truth can be uncomfortable, deal with it like adults not like high school date drama.

If I'm coworker, I ain't callin' HR, management would rather have this unhappiness contained if it can help it. I'd call my boss and say "hey, lemme buy you lunch" and talk with him one on one about the problem. If we can work together to solve the problem it makes boss look good to his bosses and builds trust between you two.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i think you are spot on with part A

Nov 13, 2018, 11:02 AM

there is a definite power struggle right now

part b, it is his boss who is making him uncomfortable by pressing questions and trying to find out who would say bad things about him and the partnership.

I answered very truthfully and I re-read a couple of times before submitting and determined that I would say all of it to our CEO in person if given the opportunity.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If someone said

Nov 13, 2018, 12:07 PM

"bad things" about them was it just someone with a bone to pick? Or was it feedback from multiple sources, in which case it should be considered constructive criticism and some kind of corrective action taken. I'm sure co-worker doesn't want to step in the dook, but he'd help himself if he got the boss to see this as a team issue vs. mgt/worker issue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

constructive criticism

Nov 13, 2018, 12:18 PM

guy has extremely thick skin and is retiring at the end of next year, he's worried about his "legacy"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ewww. Sounds like y'all are in it for the long haul. From

Nov 13, 2018, 1:00 PM

my perspective, this is retiring guy's problem. Can he not just be happy about the coming retirement? Make next year a victory lap instead of a batten down the hatches/ship shape make sure everything will be OK when I'm gone year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tell that betch, say "Listen here Terry

Nov 13, 2018, 10:33 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hold up, is your coworker thinking HR would be on his side?

Nov 13, 2018, 10:38 AM

.

Stay far, far away from the question. I don't even answer those surveys, because I don't believe for a second they are confidential.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it's kind of funny because

Nov 13, 2018, 10:43 AM

none of actually believed in the anonymity, but everyone is so fed up, they don't really care anymore.

there is a lot of moving parts with a power struggle at the top. we all sort of consider this survey as laying the evidence for who wins said power struggle. there were some very specific questions thrown in with super vagueness.

the end was a portion to identify issues and suggest changes. that's where people went to town.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's funny because the last anonymous company we had

Nov 13, 2018, 10:42 AM

had a question at the end that read (on a scale from 1 to 5) "Did you feel pressured to answer this survey positively?"

Well if they didn't then, they do now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: corporate folks what would you do?

Nov 13, 2018, 10:48 AM

My favorite is at the end of the "confidential survey" when they as questions about your tenure, position etc. Like they can't nail down who the Logistics Manager in Charleston is that's been with the company for 12 years.

Plus, typically these are all linked to your corporate email to start with. I have gotten email reminders in the past to make sure that I completed the "confidential survey" that was emailed to me. I'm all like, if it's so confidential how do you know if I've completed it or not?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

surveymonkey link from our email

Nov 13, 2018, 11:03 AM

i figure they can find IP addresses and what not if they really want to know.
