When are we going to quarantine the more vulnerable and

Mar 23, 2020, 9:53 AM

allow everyone else to work?

Why can we not implement a strict quarantine on those who are immunocompromised and >70. Stress the importance to them of only leaving the home for necessities and stay away from everyone.

Everyone else can return to their businesses.

Because everyone is extremely vulnerable

Mar 23, 2020, 9:55 AM

The original reports that things get bad for just elderly and compromised individuals wasnt correct. Folks in their 20's to 40's are getting hit pretty heavily by this, also.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

How long can we sustain this? We are recommending

Mar 23, 2020, 10:08 AM

everyone file for unemployment today. Obviously, many companies are doing this.

When do we begin to "take our chances" as healthy under 60 yr olds? When is the trade-off too much?

Massive amounts of workers dying

Mar 23, 2020, 10:12 AM

is bad for an economy as well FYI.

Color me ignorant, but hasn't there only been like 3K deaths

Mar 23, 2020, 10:14 AM

in China from this? Yes, yes, REPORTED deaths, but still.

I think the more accurate climate we are in is Italy

Mar 23, 2020, 10:19 AM

China is of course going to hide a majority of the impact there.

Italy is our worse case scenario.

And Trump et al are trying everything they can to not be Italy.

based on my deep knowledge of epidemiology,

Mar 23, 2020, 10:18 AM [ in reply to Massive amounts of workers dying ]

It is my opinion that over time, starvation will prove to have a higher mortality rate than coronavirus.

id be interested to see data on number of “workers” dying

Mar 23, 2020, 10:23 AM [ in reply to Massive amounts of workers dying ]

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want my mom or dad to get this disease, but most mortality is affecting older non work age population.

Don’t lobs think there are too many people on Mother Earth anyway? Aren’t dead humans good for the environment?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

dead humans? No

Mar 23, 2020, 10:24 AM

I'm not sure this pseudo social distancing thing

Mar 23, 2020, 10:29 AM [ in reply to Massive amounts of workers dying ]

is much different than not working.

I'm talking about a strict quarantine for those who are most vulnerable. Who knows. Obviously these public health guys are smarter than me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most vulnerable for catching the virus?

Mar 23, 2020, 10:32 AM

Most vulnerable for getting sick from the virus?
Most vulnerable for getting sick to the point of near death from the virus?
Most vulnerable for dying as a result of the virus?

I'm not sure current worldwide statistics really part out any group of folks.

Part of the issue is with folks not realizing that this thing doesn't really seem to discriminate.

Wordwide total shutdown for 2 weeks would do wonders if people would actually do it. Instead, it will drag out for weeks longer than that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would agree - except that the current bans are in place

Mar 23, 2020, 10:28 AM

to try to "flatten the curve". Aren't younger people being hospitalized, but they are strong enough to survive? (Or am I wrong about that?)

If most people just keep living their lives (and the elderly and infirm lay low) - then I don't think we "flatten the curve"....

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The curve will flatten, eventually

Mar 23, 2020, 10:32 AM

Flattening the curve doesn't save lives, it just extends the duration so that the medical manufactures can keep up production, hospitals don't get overrun anymore than they already are, etc.

MauldinT, where are you???
