the best I've done with my 4 community solar panels is about $45.00 less than what I pay to participate. I wish they would let me buy into about 8 more. I think at that point I would break even most months.

But Duke Energy in NC, you just run the credit until March timeframe, then they wipe it to zero. You don't get paid, but you get to carry the credits over, so essentially you just pay nothing.

never run over. Otherwise they're using you. Basically you sank a ton of money on the panels. You save $197 a month. They make $800. No thanks.
If solar really caught on it'd be like land-line phones with electricity. With fiber optics and the internet plus cells, land-line phone lines still need to be maintained with less paying customers. So you pay through the roof.

If they never write you a check, you’re saving $170/mo ($200 utility minus $30 solar monthly). Would be super quick if power company cut you a check for overage.
$6,800/170 = 40 months
