It's been a while since I've been down there, so I planned a sort of impromptu trip with the girlfriend for the weekend of July 4th. We're looking at Air BnBs, and it looks like the more affordable ones near downtown are in Avondale, Wagener Terrace, and the area around there. Are those acceptable spots, or would you look elsewhere?
Also, anything going on that weekend I should know about?

Avondale would be better than wagener terrace. Avondale is a cool little spot with some good restaurants and a brewery. There's nothing in wagener terrace except a wedding venue.
and for July 4th get with Ineligible user® and have him to take you to morris island

But we're about the water, not the city. That may make a difference. Another cool option is a houseboat rental, but they get kind of pricey.
