How many conservatives/republicans woke up crying today?

Nov 7, 2018, 1:40 PM

Oddly, I've seen no mass hysteria with claims that the world is ending, no "THAT'S NOT MY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!!", no violent protests, nor any one threatening to move to Canada.

Why not?

Re: How many conservatives/republicans woke up crying today?

Nov 7, 2018, 1:56 PM

Because conservatives are much more reasonable and less prone to emotion than libtards. Oh wait. Long before Trump took office, conservatives established the playbook that you're coyly referencing when Obama was elected.

Please, don't tell me you don't know that the "NOT MY PRESIDENT [OR INSERT TITLE HERE]" didn't originate with the TeaParty mouthbreather crowd back in 08-09?

To answer your question 1) everyone knew the house majority would flip and 2) the midterms aren't quite as big of a deal as electing a sociopathic reality TV star to office.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How many people were in the "tea party"?

Nov 7, 2018, 2:00 PM

Certainly not millions of people like the amount that voted for Hillary in the last presidential election, and are still can't seem to accept her loss.

Re: How many people were in the "tea party"?

Nov 7, 2018, 2:07 PM

So did millions of people say they were leaving the country if Trump/whichever Republican got elected? Or are you referring to the few celebrities and weird attention whoares?

Just trying to figure out what you're trying to compare or what the basis is for saying either side is different. Also, pointing out that quite a few pubs lost their collective minds when Obama was elected, hence adopting the phrase "not my president".

The freak out isn't really what was unique

Nov 7, 2018, 2:31 PM [ in reply to Really? All of them haven't accepted the loss? ]

It was all the claims that people's mental health was being affected, and that they somehow needed to be protected from confronting whatever they associated with Donald Trump.

I'm personally pretty embarrassed that Trump is a Republican and that he was nominated by Republicans. Most of what he does embarrasses me, and I think many conservatives and Republicans feel the same way. But writing about how you've had trouble functioning because of those feelings, or even really being sympathetic to acting or feeling that way, isn't a narrative the right is interested in.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That isn't a feeling anyone should be interested in.

Nov 7, 2018, 3:29 PM

What Trump, or Obama, or any president does, or doesn't do, has about zero affect in 99% of everyone's lives who aren't mired in a career that has something to do with politics.

Saying a I need a safe space to process my thoughts that Trump actually won was, and still is, a bunch of crap.

Nov 7, 2018, 2:08 PM [ in reply to Re: How many conservatives/republicans woke up crying today? ]

But the kind of emotional exhibitionism we've seen in the last couple of years is a progressive thing.

Pieces like this are a totally new thing:

(this is just one particularly stupid example of a genre)

And another slightly different, but just as exhibitionist piece:

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nov 7, 2018, 2:24 PM [ in reply to have you seen a trump rally? ]

There's obviously a lot of emotion on both sides, but the exhibition of the emotional effect of politics is something that seems dyed into the progressive wool at this point. We see claims that people's mental well-being is going to be significantly affected by having to cope with people they disagree with being taken more and more seriously by progressives, especially on college campuses. This is just something you won't find on the right, and some would argue that's another strike against the right.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure I see much difference in the emotions

Nov 7, 2018, 2:41 PM

Before Trump, your argument may have been more accurate but since Trump's takeover of the right I think your argument doesn't make much sense anymore. In fact, I think what he has shown us is that emotion has always been at the core of the republican party, but they bottled it up or tried to hide how emotional they were until Trump showed them it was okay to let it all out. We see the right embrace their fear and anger of immigration or "socialism" as way to unite the party (that hate/anger has always been there but it was more hidden than it is now).

In other words, we see the right's well-being significantly affected by having to cope with people they disagree with(ideologically and physically) being taken more seriously by the country. That's just something you find to be true on the right and left and it's a strike against both.

They certainly don't put it in those terms

Nov 7, 2018, 2:27 PM

Plus, calling anybody who is upset in some way by something somebody says "triggered" is just a misapplication of the term. There is a legitimate use of "triggered" which refers to things that set people off who have PTSD. But the term was adopted by progressives on campus who began calling for "trigger warnings" whenever they were presented with unpleasant or controversial (read: not toeing the progressive line) material.

That was the Tea Party, which was a vast minority of Republicans and represented a very insignificant and tiny demographic. Yes they were loud, and yes they were very easy to make fun of in the media, the media who typically makes mountains out of mole hills.

Nov 7, 2018, 2:31 PM

I guess taking control of the house is not a big deal, it is not like dems are going to go digging around in trumps taxes , start multiple investigations about his staff and campaign staff, and more or less make life a nightmare for trump in pretty much every possible way in their power. Glad this is not a big deal, because we all know how well trump handles scrutiny.

Re: How many conservatives/republicans woke up crying today?

because people voted for that reason, not for policy or in order to see legislation enacted....they want more digging and wasted tax money on rabbit hole investigations to lock up someone who didnt sign their taxes 40 years ago.

I would like to think that these dems were elected to make change in their home state for their constituents.

Re: How many conservatives/republicans woke up crying today?

Nov 7, 2018, 3:59 PM [ in reply to Re: How many conservatives/republicans woke up crying today? ]

They wont do that, because after the Kavanaugh disaster, the Trump administration has enough evidence to prosecute a significant number of congressmen within the Democrat leadership.

The Dems will unwittingly play along, all while doing nothing more than using Pelosi and Occasio-Cortez to stand in front of the camera and spew more idiotic things that will meme them into oblivion and give the country strong motivation to vote Republican again in 2020.

This worked out brilliantly for the Republicans. Enough of a Democrat majority to make a lame duck Congress. The Dems will put Occasio-Cortez in front of the camera, thinking she will destroy Trump, when in reality she will make an absolute fool of her herself. Seriously, watcher her interviews, she's hilarious. I mean really, she just sounds so utterly unintelligent. Paired with her bogus "cali girl" accent and affinity for saying "like uh you know uh like" in between every word...man I could not have hoped for a better result. She will keep running her mouth, saying idiotic things, America will look at her, laugh, and then come back in 2020 with a strong Republican vote.

Besides, the Democrats dont hold enough of a majority in the House to stop Trump. Likewise, the Republicans own the Senate, SCOTUS, obviously the POTUS, the majority of Gubernatorial seats, hold a majority of state legislators, and have the majority of states trending hard red. Its fantastic, and having Pelosi and Occasio-Cortez as the front runners for the Dems is going to fail spectacularly.

The new Democrat majority in the House is the same thing as the Coots claiming they'll win a National Championship because they have Jake Bentley. Its going to be FANTASTIC.
