Re: Yup, at Alabama those fans staying helps recruiting.

Oct 25, 2013, 8:24 AM

Fan support is huge to recruiting. No kid wants to see an empty stadium, winning or losing. I konw. I played Div One football.

Re: Yup, at Alabama those fans staying helps recruiting.

Oct 25, 2013, 8:32 AM

If the players in the 4th quarter of the game are worried about the butts in the stands then something is wrong with them.

And while I agree that fan support is a big part of recruiting, I still say if you got a big trophy case and a lot of former players making millions in the NFL it kind of has a bigger impact on recruiting.

Otherwise why isn't Michigan winning titles every year? Their stadium holds like 108,000 people.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You just don't get it

Oct 25, 2013, 8:41 AM

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah? Well the fans showed up Saturday night. The

Oct 25, 2013, 8:43 AM

atmosphere as the buses were pulling around was electric.

If the players wanted fans to stay then don't give Flordia State 14 #### points to start the game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mistakes happen. You kidding?

Oct 25, 2013, 8:49 AM

If you ever played sports you would know that stuff happens. I doubt anyone did it on purpose. Snowball effect of quick points just kept going. Very hard to turn around. Sorry--stay until the end.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First, stop with your bull #### "if you ever played sports"

Oct 25, 2013, 8:58 AM

statements. Most people on this board played at least some sports growing up. I played sports year round up until I got to Clemson, and then I moved on to the intramural sports here.

That being said, one fumble is a mistake. But the next possession as a team, players and coaches, you have to set a rhythm. We never did that. It's simple.

And sorry, I stayed until the end of the 3rd quarter because I had hopes until then of a comeback. Don't act all high and mighty because you stayed to watch us get our ### whipped.

Here's a little note: if all of the fans had stayed the whole game, it wouldn't have mattered.

Oct 25, 2013, 8:51 AM

Name ONE "Div One football" program whose stadium is "PACKED"/fans NEVER leave early when THEIR home team is getting BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER?????????????

and if you say Alabama i'm gonna write you off as incapable of having a rational conversation b/c you'd be wrong

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Answer provided. Learn from it.

Oct 25, 2013, 8:55 AM

There are many. Be happy with winning records. Many schools are losing and their fans still support them. Get real. Oh, and there is one school who has always supported their teams and university through thick and thin--very evident this past year with the debacle with their program--Penn State fans never leave early. And they are playing with walk-ons, down 15 scholarship players per year.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WRONG!!!!!!!...............

Oct 25, 2013, 9:01 AM

Penn State is having BIG ISSUES selling season tickets.......their season ticket sells are extremely low compared to where they were........and probably wont improve much until the sanctions are over.

my father in law is a penn state alumni and die hard fan he's told me about their problems

..........and yes they do leave early if/when getting blown out

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

100% incorrect. Watch the home games--they are packed.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:04 AM

and you would expect some lack of interest for all the problems blown up with the NCAA debacle.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

there is a lack of interest.......hence the downfall of.....

Oct 25, 2013, 9:10 AM

season tickets sold...........and their attendance has fallen since the sanctions.......that's a fact

naturally you're going to have your big game crowds like Michigan, etc......just like you had a HUGE crowd at clemson..........even then there were still empty seats in the upper deck southeast section corner

but like i said go back to their last BLOW OUT HOME LOSS and those stands will be much like the ones you saw in death valley saturday night.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Incorrect.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:16 AM

Given the circumstances they are doing quite well. The point is we don't have those problems and we bail on the team too soon. Penn State fans, are generally there until the end except for those who have the excuses of little kids, old, etc. I know. I played there.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are doing well, considering, but their stadium would be

Oct 25, 2013, 9:20 AM

and has been empty in the 4th when getting blown away at home........EVERY STADIUM IS!!!!!!!!!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 100% incorrect. Watch the home games--they are packed.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:11 AM [ in reply to 100% incorrect. Watch the home games--they are packed. ]

This link shows that Penn State averages 96,493 fans per game for their first four home games this year.

http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2013-2014/teamcume.html

This link shows the capacity of Beaver Stadium at 106,572.

http://www.gopsusports.com/facilities/beaver-stadium.html

In case you're wondering, that's 10,079 empty seats AT THE START OF THEIR GAMES on average. And you're telling me a fan base that can't even sell out their stadium is going to stay to the end of the game if they're getting blown out?

Listen, I don't leave Clemson games early. But to think that there's a fan base out there who stays the entire time when their team is getting obliterated at home is absolutely asinine.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Small problem with your logic.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:17 AM

Their numbers are super given what they just went through. Clemson sells out because ther are tons of people who buy tickets they don't need in order to re-sell them and make money. Sad.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Super? They have an enrollment of 40,000 plus. We have

This doesn't count there was 2 minutes left in the game.

Correct me if my logic is wrong, games are 60 minutes long, with 2 minutes left that makes 58 minutes and not the end?

Also, you don't clear that many seats in like 5 minutes. Those stands had to have been clearing out will before there was 2 minutes left.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What I can see with my eyes is not an assumption.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:49 AM

No one is walking out in that picture therefore, the people either left early or didn't show up.

If you are correct that this picture was taken with 2 mins left in the game only a two things could have occurred:

1) The Rapture, not likely in this case
2) Fans left earlier than with 2 minutes left.

Do yourself a favor and save some face and just don't even reply to this.

I do stay til the end.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:40 AM [ in reply to Stay till the end. Support don't DESERT!*** ]

I don't leave early. I was there until the end Saturday. I was there the whole time when NC State beat us 38-6 on a Thursday night. I was there when North Carolina beat us 38-3 in 2001. I stay until the end when we're playing South Carolina State and the like.

But the point you're trying to make isn't true. Fans of every program leave early. You used Penn State as an example of fans that don't leave early. Scooter provided a picture of Beaver Stadium with hardly anyone remaining and the game still going on.

I want our fans to stay the whole time too. But I can't blame them if they want to leave after seeing that happen on Saturday night. If they paid for the ticket, it's their right to leave whenever they want.

I'll never leave early, but others may want to. That's their choice.

2:00 remaining is not the end. If you're leaving with 2:00 minutes left, there's no difference than if you leave with 22:00 left.

The end is when the clock reads 0:00. Not 2:00, not 1:37, or any other number. It's 0:00.
