Are we missing something about this win?

Jan 11, 2019, 11:24 AM

May be Germans, but I'm not really hearing or seeing this point of view anywhere.

There's NO doubt Bama is a great team. All year long they were tagged as "quite possibly Saban's best team ever." And certainly their offense was on another level compared to past Bama teams.

What I'm not hearing is "CLEMSON BEAT THE BEST BAMA TEAM EVER, SO THAT MAKES CLEMSON THE BEST TEAM EVER." I hear players saying, but not national media.

Lets hope the national talking heads remember that fact through the off season and don't allow the typical SEC speech to creep back into their talking points.

Media doesn’t report, or even forecast. They wishcast.
For some reason, they’d love to think of Alabama as the greatest ever.
But not Clemson.
Plus, the media is incredibly lazy.

Plus, many of the talking heads in the national media have graduated from OSU, Meeechigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSPU and so forth. How many of them are from Clemson? Hard to hide their loyalties, though guys like Reece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit play it down the middle pretty well, IMO.

national media to accept that Donald Trump is our legitimate President. Square peg round hole. Too many programmed zombies to actually break it down and think honestly for themselves.

C&P of that part since many probably don't have a sub to The Athletic:

Through five College Football Playoffs, with 20 teams in total, please rank them 1 (best) through 20 (worst). Is there any way Michigan State in 2015 isn’t easily the worst?

Let me quickly address the second part: No. No, there is not.

As for the top of the list, you may accuse me of recency bias if you’d like, but I truly believe we saw two of the three best teams Monday night — and two of the worst on Dec. 29.

2018 Clemson (the first 15-0 team, which thoroughly dominated the team most of us assumed would be No. 1 on this list by game’s end)
2014 Ohio State (so many future pros, led by Ezekiel Elliott and Joey Bosa)
2018 Alabama (the first 14 games still happened)
2015 Alabama (underrated team with a phenomenal defense)
2015 Clemson (Dabo Swinney’s breakout team took ’Bama to the wire)
2016 Clemson (Deshaun, Deshaun, Deshaun)
2016 Alabama (undefeated until the last second of the last game)
2015 Oklahoma (Baker Mayfield’s first Playoff team also had a decent defense)
2017 Alabama (Tua came in and saved Nick Saban’s “worst” title team)
2017 Georgia (Dawgs won a dramatic Rose Bowl, lost a heartbreaking title game)
2017 Oklahoma (There wasn’t much separating UGA and OU)
2014 Oregon (Marcus Mariota’s team demolished Jameis Winston/FSU but got blown out in the final)
2014 Alabama (No disrespect to Blake Sims … but he was this team’s starting QB)
2016 Ohio State (The Buckeyes regressed straight into a 31-0 semifinal loss)
2017 Clemson (Core of this year’s team, but with Kelly Bryant at QB; lost to 4-8 Syracuse)
2018 Notre Dame (12-0, then got creamed by Clemson — but so did ’Bama)
2016 Washington (Great defense, but wasn’t the best team in its own conference)
2014 Florida State (Lived dangerously all season, imploded in Pasadena)
2018 Oklahoma (Kyler Murray was great, that defense was not)
2015 Michigan State (No. 81 in offense, No. 53 in defense … No. 3 seed in the Playoff)

Jim Rome was spouting that on Tuesday, because as he said, if Bama would have won by 4 TD's and was 15-0 then EVERYONE would have been touting Bama as the greatest team ever.
