Crushed.... It would seem realism would set in and folks might realize "hey....we might not be having our graduation there!

This line... "a 2002 graduation ceremony in the stadium was rained out"
I remember it well. There is still some bitterness over how that was handled and it sounds like this made an impact on the decision. Thankfully their decision means no more Clemson grads receive their diploma through the concession stand. I was one of the lucky ones who went across the stage before it got bad, but many of my friends were not so lucky and got theirs through the concession stand. It was extremely poor planning and then the University poked the wound when they decided to move our senior sidewalk away from its original location next to Death Valley.
I'm happy that the 2015/2016 classes will have a better planned graduation than Spring 2002.

I was one of those who picked up their diploma at the concession stand. "Evacuate the stadium!!!" Ha

Walked at LJ but my high school graduation was similar. Personally I prefer the story now compared to the same ole for everyone else.

They had multiple ceremonies at Tillman in 12/01 so why do

that again. Why not keep it on campus? I would feel cheated as a grad or parent. I would want my Clemson graduation on campus.

While I agree it would be cool/intimate to have a graduation in Tillman, they would probably have to divide each college into its own ceremony to make that work. Meaning, there are way too many graduates and attendees and not enough space in Tillman's auditorium to accommodate. I don't know how many graduates there were for a December 2001 graduation, but for my December 2012 graduation, it had just about as many as a normal May graduation. Even the August graduations are getting too big for one ceremony. They divided my December graduation into two ceremonies because there were that many graduates. I believe that was the first time they did that.
At any rate, I would not like graduating in the 'Well'. Where would you go for pictures? - no Clemson landmarks around! Sucks for those kids!

2002 Graduation

i graduated in 2002. Ceremony held in Death Valley. First of all it took well over an hour for all the graduates to file into the stadium. Then the tropical storm hit. 80% of the graduates (including myself) didn't "walk across the stage and shake the president's hand". We picked up our diplomas at a concession stand. At least it was memorable.
