The comment section is priceless. All of the liberals whining that the priorities are out of whack and it is one of the best school districts in Texas. Huffington Post is a joke. Which makes me wonder why you were there? Hmmm?

other news sources and the comments are the same. It's high school, it's stupid and misguided. They spent $60 million to build a new stadium to add an extra 4,000 seats. FAIL!!

So so touchy. Went there. Saw the pictures. Read the comments. Wondered why I felt stoopider by the second. Saw it was Huff Po. Got the heck out of the site. Showered and de-loused. And apparently hurt your feelings. I think you need to go to Chick-fil-a and reflect.

Okay clearly I am not the idiot here. I was not being a jerk. I said what I said in jest and he took it seriously and got his little feelings hurt. It is funny that you call me the jerk and I am the one being called names. I did choose to look at the link and I ENJOYED the link. But I also read the comments on the link and commented on those as well.

More the norm than exception for big schools

Big stadiums are common in TX high schools. As big as high school football may be in SC you just can't compare it to TX (note I'm not making a statement about quality of players). 10,000 for a regular season high school football game is not unusual and in some paces would be a disappointing turnout.
I lived about 10 miles from Allen High School and it was just oe of many in the area - not an especially large school when compared to others around there

for high school football in South Carolina sellout the season before the season even starts. It's a completely different animal there. It's that big a deal, and judging from the tax hike approval the city voted on, the people there want all the amenities that come with a nice stadium at their games.

district just had to let go of 40 teachers and 44 support staff and has a current budget shortfall of nearly $4 million. Yes. High school football is big in Texas. We all get that, but it doesn't change the fact that it's stupid and misguided.
College football is different. Football and basketball are marketing and entertainment. It brings in billions in TV revenues. It serves as the primary marketing tool for major universities. It generates tons of money and exposure. Treating high school athletics like college or pros is beyond stupid an misguided. Those folks have seriously misguided priorities.

College football is not different

It may on the scale of the hundreds of millions of dollars it brings in, but it does bring in substantial revenue in Texas. Games are televised in that state and exposure is a big thing there.
The budget shortfall is b/c of cuts on state funding which has to be made up somewhere else. Where are they going to try to make this up? How bout the new football stadium! The football program itself does not get any money from the revenue it generates, it is backed solely by the booster program. This new stadium is expected to generates millions of dollars each year and all the revenue is going into a teachers fund. Nowhere else.
It should also be noted that this stadium was also approved 3 years before the budget cuts took place and by Texas state laws, the bonds approved cannot be used for anything other than the stadium, so it wasn't like there was much they could do. Luckily it will generate revenue to help the situation.

your thoughts and beliefs on a myriad of subjects in and outside of sports, enough so that any one person could take a fraction of those things and get a pretty good idea about the person you are and what you believe in.
If those beliefs are in fact true then you are way off on what the pulse of this country is and what many people think. There's a lot of stuff that goes on in this country that I agree with and a lot that I am in the minority on, but at least I realize where I stand compared to popular beliefs and am not naive that good or bad us Sandlappers aren't always in touch with the rest of the nation.
