say an existing biz was purchased...
"client" of business under previous owner calls and says they realized they owed business monies for services provided prior to business acquisition by new owner.
Client is almost insisting that they pay...
Should new owner accept payment?
and no, I don't own a business. nor am I the client in this story
it's also not a yuge amount of monies

Did the previous owner do a good job at collecting? I would think not.

to get the product?
If so, forgive the debt. If they still insist on paying, tell them they can pay and if they sign a contract for x amount of years the company will give them that amount off in discounts for the life of the contract.
#### I'm good at this.

Yes, accept the payment. We deal with customers occasionally where we may have made an invoicing error in their favor but they require us to rebill them correctly for a higher amount because they need budgets/POs/payables to match what's expected on their end. They would rather pay the extra money than have to redo all that on their own end costing more in time than the billing error.
This is only my opinion, and to be fair, we probably needs pics of clients tids to make a final determination.

I would think outstanding payments-owed would have been purchased when the buyer bought the business. So yes, it is ok to accept.

What was purchased?

Did the new owner buy the Accounts Receivable, or just ongoing relationships? This should be listed in the purchase document as to who owns that $$$. Let the client pay then if the money is owed back to the seller, pay them.
