So I'm not officially an Anderson resident....

Jul 10, 2018, 7:05 PM

and in case anyone didn't know this already, moving sucks donkey balls.

Had packers and movers and they were pretty good for the most part, but still sucks.

Got a garage full of boxes that maybe there until the next move. Somehow we managed to buy a bigger house and have less space for our sheet.

Also, have to build a fence and best quote I've gotten so far is $20/ft for a 6' wooden blockade style, plus gates. Anyone know a good fence contractor in Anderson?

Jul 10, 2018, 8:38 PM

just do it yourself. Building a fence is one of the easiest things you can DIY. Would be closer to $5-6/ft

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If I had the time, I would, but we've got a big dog that...

Jul 11, 2018, 9:26 AM

needs outside time and it would be a good while before I could get this done myself.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it SEEMS easy

Jul 11, 2018, 9:54 AM [ in reply to $20/ft? dammmmson ]

but it also seems like a PIA

I wanna replace the fence at a rental, but pulling down the old one and pulling OUT the concrete and disposing of it all seems 5x worse than building the new one

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you don't need to pull out the concrete

Jul 11, 2018, 9:58 AM

If the posts are <20 years old you can get another 20 years out of the posts if they were installed properly. If they are rotten just cut them off at the ground and they'll eventually rot away.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they weren't installed properly

My brother built his own, my step-dad built his own as well. My father-in-law has a handyman business and may do something like that. How many feet you got besides the two?

wasn't going to live in Hartwell or Lavionia and G'vill was too far of a commute. Settled on Anderson for the schools in district 5 basically.

Jul 11, 2018, 12:51 PM

in material.....money is in the pickets and if or how you space them. I could be completely wrong here, but one man could do this in 3 days? 3 days X 10 hrs/day X $25/hr = $750.

So 750 + 6250 = $7,000 = $23/ft.

I will see if my FIL will quote it for you.

self-made fencing the easy way

Jul 11, 2018, 1:39 PM

this is the way I have built a fence around my yard to keep my dogs in. easy as pie, and can build by myself (no wire stretching and such that takes multiple people).

Very few materials too.

All you need are:

4x4 square fence posts
a bunch of 2x4s (or 1x4s if you want)
whatever wire mesh you fancy
screws to attach it all
any additional caps or decorative pieces.

Put posts in at whatever width you want (6', 8', etc). Then make panels to fit out of 4 pieces of lumber and tack the mesh on. Whatever height you want (mine is 4' tall). Screw them in one panel at a time and you got yourself a fence. Cap the top rail and posts if you wanna go fancy. Make a gate the same way with some hinges.

End product looks something like this. Hard to mess this up. You can do hundreds of feet in a day.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that would drop $4k in panel costs

Jul 11, 2018, 1:48 PM

huge cut to a fence project

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wish I had seen this before I did my fence.

Jul 11, 2018, 1:51 PM

Hadn't thought about that concept. We used deck boards, 3 per panel.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That stuff will last forever

Jul 12, 2018, 8:54 AM

Plus, if you decide to keep hogs in your hard... it's good for that as well.

I looked LONG and HARD at it to use around my deck/pool, but I didn't. I probably should have, though. I think it's pretty swanky.

Protip: Get the black painted wire mesh for the fence. The galvanized (what I have) looks like crap after about a year.
