Their uniforms were lighter!!! Haha! Like how they put Clemson in with "elite". Nice :)

Would like to see what they do with the Orange unis. I kinda prefer the white top & orange pants for away games, but this is a nice compromise with so much orange on the pant legs. I have a hard time thinking that the "saved weight" will make much of a difference.

Nike (Clemson) and Under Armour (USC)sure are competing. UA must be taking market share from Nike in apparel.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not really. Nike is just flexing their muscle......

Nov 23, 2009, 8:48 PM

Nike was built on make things lighter weight so people could go faster. It's in their DNA. Well, that and marketing.

Nike really stumbled onto something when they discovered flywire for shoes. It's filtered throughout campus and changed their entire world (shoes, apparel, running, football, golf, tennis, etc) on their campus the last 2 years.

I was on campus at Nike for a few days last August and they got a research lab, that, if looking at equipment and dollars for research, is second only to NASA.

Good Guys Wear White??????

Nov 23, 2009, 9:27 PM [ in reply to One of 11? ]

When's the last time VPI wore all white? All white is our road uni. This is all about sales and PC. We are the good guys that wear all white. However, we're in SC and they're in VA. So Nike is trying to make VPI the new CLEMSON. I appreciate Nike including us with the unis, IT'S GREAT! But VPI is a thug school with thug recruits. Their reputation speaks for itself. What would be great is if we come out in all orange combat unis. Then i will say viva la nike.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I find it a bit disturbing

that "All In" is embroidered on the jock strap.

Its not. Its inside the collar of the jersey

of a jock?

Does this mean that CJ and Jacoby are 37% faster now....

Nov 23, 2009, 8:42 PM

LOL!!!! That's scary news for the USuCk!!!!

"The Nike Pro Combat uniform is 37 percent lighter than current designs (673 grams vs. 1,061 grams).... as a result, the new uniforms are 46 percent lighter than the current designs when wet."

"The Nike Pro Combat uniform pant is 49 percent lighter than current designs."

Plus, the shoes are at 10oz which at LEAST 2-3oz lighter weight than anything Nike has.

Additionally... "Bladed heel cleats aid multi-directional traction. Secondary traction elements include sidewall shovels and bucktooth technology for strong toe-off traction."

CJ is going to have a field day on Saturday with these new cleats. Those coots better tape tighten up their jock strap real tight and tape up their ankles real good!

Re: Clemson to wear special uniform on Saturday

Nov 23, 2009, 10:16 PM

Hate It! I thought we were working toward getting back to old school uni's like the pants we brought back for this year and some of the other changes. I though we were going to change the jersey going to something that would match the timeless look of the pants. All white I like, the pants on this "Pro-Combat" are horrible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Jerseys are old school just new material.

Nov 24, 2009, 11:00 AM

I have a feeling this wasnt part of Nike's original plan for this years procombat thing. Thats why we in the picture with the other 10 or 11. The jerseys are probably next years but they were able to get some to use early. The Jerseys seem to be exactly what Dabo wants. Old School, back to what the 80s teams wore. Nike probably just created the pants just to make it look a little weird like the other procombat schools.

These Jerseys with the usual pants would be beautiful. Theres no denying that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree.

Nov 24, 2009, 11:43 AM

I think it's fine to go with the newer materials as long as it is a traditional pattern. I'm glad to see the line is gone from the jersey and the collar is fixed. With the pants we have been wearing this year they will look almost vintage. I would still like to see paws on the shoulders and numbers on the sleeve though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

great....now we have to hear another excuse******

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nov 24, 2009, 12:31 AM

chosen to debut these and now so many are complaining about it! This is a bonus for our players that have done so much this season. Its just one more perk for them and they deserve the attention it brings. Who cares otherwise what they wear as long as we show up in our home away from home and continue to "handle our business"! Its just fun to have one more thing to irritate those fighting old sac spurriers..ALL IN on the collar is pretty sweet too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Another excuse for the Coots: Unfair uniform advantage***

Nov 24, 2009, 12:40 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So they "immersed themselves in Clemson history" for this?

Nov 24, 2009, 1:25 PM

Here's what the article says:
"Nike designers immersed themselves in Clemson Tigers history and lore to bring inspirational cues to the look and direction of the Nike Pro Combat uniforms. The new look is best described as “modern classic.”

Nike designers gave a nod to the Clemson look from the early 1980’s, including the undefeated National Championship team from 1981, when creating the Tigers’ Nike Pro Combat uniform."

If this is the case, then this is what the uni's should look like:

Orange and black horizontal stripes on the socks (from which we derived the nickname "Tigers" back in the day)
A picture of Frank Howard inside the helmet (since he's always on our mind)
A picture of Danny Ford over the left breast
A picture of Ken Hatfield on the butt
The image of a sabre doubling as a stripe going down the left pant leg in a nod to our military history
The cleats will be more like boots or waders in a nod to our agriculture history and background
A stamp on the back of the gloves so it looks like they just returned from a night out at Tigertown or somewhere else
Any other suggestions if this it to reflect Clemson's history?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The cleats and gloves are SICK....the only thing I don't

Nov 24, 2009, 1:27 PM

is the pants. They should have gone V-Tech style. That big orange thing that wraps around the top on the back just doesn't flow.

Re: Clemson to wear special uniform on Saturday

Nov 30, 2009, 7:56 AM

Not really sure if this comment was made but here it is again! These uniforms could have cause a mental or a physical distraction in playing against the Shamecocks. When playing the game in what you are used to wearing and then changing it to something lighter, did that maybe create some mental stress? Also those shoes were probably the worst at staying on. That was the biggest problem of the day. Im not venting on why we lost but it is something to think about. I think we played better in Russell Atheletic Wear to be honest. Consider dropping the Nike name regardless of the money!
