Could Clemson recruit better if we add a medical school?

Dec 20, 2018, 3:33 PM

Seems to help the Coots attract QBs.

Let's also add a Law School so future Clemson grads are stuck with JD from USCe.

I assume that you are being facetious. Yes we should add a medical school in order to attract football recruits. These med school applicants are huge, run the hundred in four six, and bench press 450. But wait, these are the guys who never applied to med school. They played college football, and then possibly went into the NFL.

because the Law School and Medical School at South Carolina blows. Two of the worst in the United States.

consider adding a Vet school.

We have the land and could build a nice campus near the Garrison arena and specialize in livestock and equine.

South Carolina does not have a vet school. NC and Ga. have a vet school. We had many very large dairy farms in SC at one time and the families would send at least one son to a vet school to take care of the cattle/cows. Most of them were enrolled at the UGA.

Since Clemson was heavy into Ag./Dairy science and was founded as an Ag. school, you would have thought that CU would have had a vet. school. I would love to see one established.

Va. Tech has a vet school. The Va Tech campus reminds me of the CU campus.

The State of South Carolina has contractual agreements with UGA and a couple other vet schools that the state will pay to basically get you in state tuition for vet school

You have to qualify but advisors should make a student aware of this freshman year or whenever you declare

Yeah SREB contract program sounds really good until

We have on-campus Chick Fil A. It's on the street that runs between Riggs & Sirrine.

I get the gist of the post, but MUSC has nothing to do with USuC. Two different schools

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The University of South Carolina also has a medical school.

Dec 20, 2018, 10:22 PM

With two campuses, in fact. One in Columbia, and one in Greenville.

Dec 21, 2018, 12:13 PM [ in reply to Re: Could Clemson recruit better if we add a medical school? ]

Smallish teaching school, little to no research so funding is mostly tuition. That also hurts any national ranking (if you can find a ranking that includes them). MUSC gets all the medical research dollars in SC. The law school typically gets ranked 80-100 out of 200 law schools.

We have a nursing school too, actually much longer than we've had Chick Fil A.

I have many friends with nursing degrees from Clemson

Dec 21, 2018, 1:46 AM

And I'm pretty sure the "nurses" on campus do a great job "attracting" recruits! ;)

The medical school in Greenville has more students from Clemson than any other … too bad it has USC's name on it.

Waste of time and resources

Dec 21, 2018, 12:18 PM [ in reply to I would love for us to have a medical and law school. ]

Focus on what we can excell at. No point in having mediocre medical and law schools. Penn State and TAMU only got law schools by acquiring existing ones, and they aren’t exactly elite so it was more having money to burn than anything else. No vet school at PSU either.

On a serious note and aside from any sports angle, IMO a vet school would be a very good and logical fit as one poster referenced with the Ag tie in. It would be interesting to know the number of SC HS grads who go to the other schools. Possibly to make it feasible, a decent number of applicants would be needed from other states depending on the level of demand from the state.
