He was a professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago.

And what does that have to do with Trump's family benefiting from clear conflicts of interest?

trademarks in China work totally different from here

in the US, you must have use in commerce to get a trademark and it protects against confusingly similar uses by others.

In china, you can register without any use and the registration only covers the exact goods/services specified in the registration and it only covers the exact mark. "confusingly similar" never enters the equation.

So, while the trademarking strategy in the US is to apply for marks you intend to use or actually using, in China the strategy is more like apply for any and everything.

Ivanka does business in China and it makes sense for her to cover the landscape of marks to insure that knockoffs don't arise or trademark squatters lockdown trademarks.

or wrong in filing a trademark application in China. I'm not sure how China could leverage a trademark registration, especially if there is no commercial use, against the president.
