I'll wear a gamecock hat for a week if CLEMSON actually

Jun 4, 2015, 5:35 PM

hires a veteran, experienced, successful coach to replace Jack. They never go after those type of coaches. They will look for some "possible" up-and-coming coach that maybe was successful for 1-2 years and won their conference championship (or got really close).

And NO - I won't wear that stupid coot hat - I was lying about that. But the rest is the absolute truth. Wait and watch CLEMSON admin at their best.

I'm calling them out right now. Man up admin - and hire a really good coach.

Hmmm? I hope this works. Sometimes ya' gotta spit in a man's beer to get his attention.

You mean sort of like a Dabo vs Hatfield type hire?

Dabo was already on staff and proved himself as an interim. Not really comparable situations unless Bradley gets a serious look.

True...it's Clemson's typical style

to hire up and comers rather than proven, experienced coaches at peer programs.

Danny Ford was a Clemson style hire, how did that work out?

Ken Hatfield was a proven, established coach at a peer program. How did that work out?

There are risks and rewards with every hire. Joe Torre wasn't all that great as a manager with the Mets, Braves, and Cardinals. Then he went to the postseason every year as manager of the Yankees winning four World Series titles. He then returned to his non-Yankees level with the Dodgers.

Pete Carroll was an abject failure with the NY Jets and mediocre with the Patriots yet in five seasons in Seattle he's won a Super Bowl and played for another.

I agree with the others. There is no pattern to successful coaching hires. If there is a trick it is hiring "the right fit." Up and comer, or older and experience guy, if he doesn't fit he ain't gonna work out. Geez, I remember all the bitching when Dabo was hired. Don't hear that now.

Coot :)

I tend to agree with you, Clemson rarely goes after the proven coach at a big school. I think this hire will be very telling of DRAD'S future as athletic director. Will be interesting to see which direction he goes.

No I don't want a former coot...Just a proven coach, hell, I'll settle for any coach that proves to be a winner at Clemson. This decision is above my pay grade

All of them were proven coaches. A number had national championships. None exceeded expectations and few even met expectations.

Most of those guys had picked up some baggage. I want a Garrido from Cal State to Texas or Bear Bryant from A&M to Alabama type move. Go big or go home. This will not end well if we do anything less.
