a good insight on how our DE's played in Auburn game

Sep 4, 2012, 2:44 PM

was out of town - can't watch again

at times they seemed to be slow - out in space or side to side

anyone study it and have good insight as to how they performed as a whole?

I agree

Crawford could work on some lateral speed. Shouldn't have gotten beat outside a couple of times.

I went back and watched bits and pieces.

I honestly think we thought Frasier was going to try and run a lot more than he did. As opposed to last year, when Steele would have the DE's just run upfield, I thought Veneables did good job of trying and keeping them at home to keep Frasier from just shooting up the B-gap after the pass rushers had come upfield.

On the run plays....they had a pretty good gameplan which Dabo admitted wasn't what they expected them to do. They ran a lot of stretch...and the DE's didn't really do a good job of flowing and filling...and got got washed out a few times (namely the one drive where Mason fumbled after getting it from the 1 out to the 50 in like 3 plays).

They also ran ISO right at Willard and Anthony all game...which we were clearly surprised by. That FB for Auburn was a MAN and did an excellent job of clearing out lanes.

In terms of speed, I'm not worried at all. I just think for the most part, we didn't know what to expect. Some of the hesitation got Crawford, in particular, hooked inside a few times.

This is a good breakdown. Crawford had a little trouble containing their 170 lb RB at times from getting to the outside which is to be expected. Vic Beasly is a good 3rd down specialist but not an every down DE right now.

Yep.

I'd be interested to see, from 3 down linemen lined up in a 3 tech, 1 tech, and 5 tech, with Beasley coming from the Bandit spot, like so:

I think it would be tough for a T/G to block Beasley and Crawford at the same time without keeping a back in.

................Willard..........Anthony..............Blanks
Beasley
........Crawford........Jarret.......Goodman
.......T.........G........C........G.......T

I think we'll see some of this look this year.
