I'm from Spartanburg and Zion isn't a fan of Clemson at this time, with the uncertainty of Coach Brownell's job and fans calling for his head has left a sour taste in his mouth.

He is not coming to Clemson. Although I'm not sure he would have ever come here. There's not a good reason to come here for basketball if you are a top prospect.

I did. We had a winning record at 17-15. That's basically breaking even comparable to a 7-5 record in football. What did it get us? A consolation prize in an NIT bid! That's what I meant by winning is not enough. You have to finish strong in your conference enough to make the NCAA tournament. We did not win enough games to make the big dance. Just like in football winning 7 games is not enough to make a big bowl game.

Zion is the top player in the country....he's got Roy, Coach K, Bill Self, Coach Cal coming to his games...he's the best of the best...him not coming to Clemson to play basketball isn't a reason to fire a guy.

and not follow in their father's footsteps. Unless you know Zion Williamson personally, you have no insight into why he does not have Clemson in his top three. It might have nothing to do with Brownell for all we know. Brownell might be the reason why he was even considering us at all in the first place. You do know that Brownell was the first to offer him a scholarship, don't you?

If we let BB go, who ya gonna call? Seriously there is no stampede of great coaches who are gonna have Clemson
basketball at the top of their bucket list... I mean I'm a fan but season after season of being at the near bottom of the ACC... AND never being able to compete with Tobacco Road teams with any consistency... The coach is doing the best he can with what he's got... sad really... I won't live long enough to see this a really viable program ??

That thinking is flawed. How are you going to know unless you try ? We can't get any worse than Brownell. At least hire a great recruiter first in a head coach and make x and os second.

Why would you expect Brownell to be able sign a guy who is definitely one & done and would probably go directly to the NBA if it was still allowed?
Only Tates Locke could "lure" that kind of player to Clemson.

That's giving up . Brownell said one time in a interview that we can't recruit top 50 players. You have to try to sign them . That's a defeast attitude.

We do offer these guys, but Brad's exactly right. Clemson cannot routinely sign Top-50 guys. It's just not going to happen unless we cheat (which we've already tried before) so we need to find a way to win without Top-50 recruits. We don't need Top-50 recruits to be a solid program that makes the NCAAs. But, getting our share of legit Top-100-150 guys would sure be a step in the right direction.

Dabo brought the winning football culture back to Clemson. The basketball coach, whoever he is, has the completely different and much harder job of actually establishuig a winning basketball culture at Clemson for the first time.
Somebody, someday may actually be able to do it. Who knows.
You may actually be young enough to see it happen. I'm pretty sure that I'm too old to expect to witness the arrival of a dominant basketball program at Clemson where Top-50 players sign on a regular basis.
And honestly, I'll be happy with a program that signs Top-100 / 150 type players who are skilled on the court and also good representatives of Clemson off the court.
We can be a good program with this type of player.

All I want is a basketball program is consistently in the top half of the league,is strong in the out of conference schedule,is in the NCAA tournament more often than not,and recruits top 100 players and occasionally top 50 players. We will never be Duke or UNC but their is no reason that we can't be like Virginia or Miami. It has been overstated but Brownell has had 7 years to get this done. He has failed to do so. Recruits can read about what is going on and know Brownells job is in question. Drad has to make a move one way or another.

I stopped after your first paragraph.
The guy Brownell replaced was taking us to the tournament every year. He built a decent program but Brownell couldn't take us to the next level or even sustain the level we were on.
Oliver Purnell did what Tommy Bowden did but couldn't get us over the hump just like him. Dabo took us to the next level.
If Brownell has the attitude that we can't get players like Zion Williamson then he needs to take a hike.

Not to mention Oliver Purnell dealt with same challenges but had us playing in the tournament, winning more games than not in the ACC, and ranking in the polls pretty consistently his last 3-4 years

No! It's not that at all! When Garnett was in Clemson's back yard, the Tigers couldn't convince him to sign, but go pro instead! That's what started all of this nonsense. Lousy AD and coach at the time...and remains to this day! Sad!

circumstances. Having Brownell here in limbo obviously makes things worse, but he's the #2 prospect in his class and those guys rarely go anywhere other then Duke, UNC, UK, KU, UCLA, etc.
