Conventional baseball says you NEVER make the last out at 3B

BUT, Byrd has been struggling and the pitcher had already thrown two wild pitches. Might've actually been worth it right there... I can't believe I just went against conventional baseball wisdom.

Two bases on a short passed ball... not very likely, ever.***

Nope, but was it more likely than Byrd getting a hit?

You just gotta play the percentages.

On a 2-0 count? Probably not.***

I personally wouldn't have done it...

but I'm not overly mad about it like I normally would be. I will say I do hate making outs on the bases when pitchers can't get outs at the plate.

So maybe score on another passed ball...? Most hits score

score the man from 2nd... It was a two out situation.

You're right and that's why you don't make the last out...

at 3rd. You're already in scoring position and it's not like a sac fly or ground out gets you in.

But the point I was making is: what are the odds that Byrd had gotten a hit. Now, what were the odds that had Greene made it to 3B that the pitcher would've thrown a wild pitch to score him. He'd already thrown 2 in 10 pitches. Which of those odds are greater?

I'm not really sure that Byrd getting a hit would happen more often there than another wild pitch from that guy.

I'm more conventional there, but I do think it's an interesting thought and a fun one to debate.
