Anybody but Trump prevailed

I was born in ‘82 and believe this was my first one term president?
Now that’s it’s over, can we have a show of hands who think Biden will be done in 2 yrs and just voted because he wasn’t Trump? ??

if he can work across the aisle and be the unifier and calming influence that people are claiming, I will support him.
Starting off claiming a mandate and talking about how he is going to fix the economy that yesterday showed a continuation of it's rebound is not the way to unify.

50.6% of the popular vote for Biden.
Losing seats in the House and not flipping the Senate.
Sure seems like a mandate to me.
If he can get the seats in Georgia, maybe he might can try to claim that.
You can ignore the viewpoint of people you disagree with all you want, but the better message is the message he had on Tuesday-Thursday.
The unifying message is to acknowledge that the country is divided and he plans to unify it. Claiming a mandate means the people have overwhelmingly chosen his direction.

not gonna get into a rabbit hole of back and fourth on what a would qualify as a mandate, but will say a few things here. 1. we go by electoral votes and this will be the largest margin in quite a while, while flipping 2 usual red states blue, as well as rebuilding the blue wall. 2. the counting is not complete. votes are still being counted all over the country.

I will agree with you on the senate part. However I think the people made it loud and clear Trump needs to go, call it what you will

I'm not trying to be an ###.
I'm only saying it is not wise for Biden to say he has a mandate. He should continue to acknowledge that the country is divided and pledge to bring us together like he said during the campaign.
If he does that, although 49.4% of the country might be against him now, he can win over reasonable people.

franc,
When it is over he will have more EC votes than Trump did in 2016. Will you allow for Biden exercising his "mandate" to the same extent that Trump did ??

it answers basic questions about leadership, mandates, and building consensus
306 is the same as what Trump got completely the exact same thing.
Trump had no mandate

Trump received 304 and Clinton 227, as 7 faithless electors, 2 pledged to Trump and 5 to Clinton, voted for other candidates.

I’ve mentioned it here before that Mrs Fluff and I have called it the Trump experiment
Policies seemed to do well, abrasive ness and everything else, not so much
Agreed that hopefully we can chill on the divide and get things done from both sides. I’m not optimistic, not because Biden, but because everyone else
He won, he’s our president elect and we see what happens
He either gets 8 yrs or just these 4, that’s how it works

Unity comes from everybody, not 1 person. You will never see that in this country and you’d be naive to think that 1 person will unify all. It will always be a Us vs them country as long as you have “parties”. That has to be the dumbest creation in the history of the world!

we all choose our own attitudes.
But as a leader, if I am leading 11 people and I ask for opinions on a course of action and 6 choose one way and 5 choose the other, I will take it that I have to move cautiously forward, whichever direction we go.
I certainly would not consider it a mandate. The leader's job is to build consensus toward the direction they are going. If I claim we have a mandate, I alienate the 5 that chose the other direction.

Touch,
Are we all going to comne together and sing Kumbaya - no.
But I feel certain that President Biden will do way more to help us come together than Trump ever did. And I think that is a big reason that we the people elected him.

I don't expect him to make it to two terms. Maybe not through one. And I don't have faith in a great presidency from him or Harris.
But Jesus, Trump had to go. For the sake of America.

Everyone I know who voted for Biden has a job...very good jobs. Trump had to go...at ANY personal cost IMO. Now maybe the country can heal for a few years...if people like you will let it.
