ACC 3 way tie - What happens? CHAOS

Oct 13, 2020, 9:07 AM

I saw another post talking about UNC/ND, and it got me thinking...

What happens if ND beats us, UNC beats them, and Miami beats UNC or some other scenario where you would have Clemson, UNC and ND with 1 loss. I assume it would be highest ranked teams get to play in Charlotte for the Championship but can you imagine the whining out of Chapel Hill if that happened (I would expect Clemson and ND would get the benefit of the doubt)?

Also, a cancelled game could really affect things as well. In the scenario above, say UNC and ND are 10-1, but Clemson is 9-1 due to some opponent cancelling from a covid outbreak. 10-1 is a better record by percentage, but would be brutal to sit at home through no real fault of your own.

Obvious answer is to win all our games (like every other year), and this isn't an issue. I think we will. I think this team is focused and will go all the way, but it will be interesting to see how it all plays out... in other conferences too.

I don't see the Big Ten getting more than 4-5 games in due to their extremely stringent Covid rules, and no bye/makeup weeks built in. You know a 5-0 OSU team will still think they should get into the playoff over a 10-1 or 9-2 team from another conference. Michigan is probably already scheming how to get their game against OSU cancelled and somehow sneak into the playoff if they can run the table up to that game.

Lots of "ifs", but the drama is far from over, and it's going to be a wild ride to watch it all play out.

Under your scenario, wouldn't Miami also have only one loss?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure 2 highest ranked play, all else equal.

Oct 13, 2020, 9:40 AM

Pretty simple.

Nope. It is this (whatever it means)

Head-to-head competition versus the team within the conference with the best overall conference win percentage and proceeding through the conference. Multiple ties within the conference will be broken first to last, using the league’s tiebreaker policies.

Just win baby! That is the answer.

I am looking forward to another matchup with the Heels. That game would likely equal any championship game later on in the season.

Clearly you meant what happens if theres a 3 way tie for 2nd

Oct 13, 2020, 11:36 AM

Who would play Clemson in ACCCG?

Short answer, it doesn't matter who draws the short straw, they don't stand a chance.

We just need to win out because a loss to Notre Dame and then a Unc win over ND could put us out of it assuming Unc runs the table.
