You have been named DC for the G. Tech game only

You have decided to play a 3-4 and make G. Tech linemen get out in space, instead of just diving at ankles from the snap. Who would you put on the field. I'm going with:
DE - Goodman - 6-4 280
DT - Maybank - 6-4 345
DE - Corey Crawford - 6-5 280
OLB - Parker -6-1 220
ILB - Steward - 6-1 245
ILB - Anthony - 6-3 235
OLB - Willard - 6-2 220
CB - Breeland -
CB - Brewer
SS - Townsend - 6-2 215
FS - Blanks - 6-1 180

I figure he has to be on the field. I think Teek could play SS against Tech, which would allow him to move around more, as long as our FS stays deep and our CB mind their own business.

I think you might be able to go
OLB Anthony
ILB Goodson
ILB Steward
OLB Willard
That gives us the biggest set of linebackers.

With a 4-4-3 you want true DBs playing in the backfield to guard against getting burned deep, so I'd still have Lateek at LB.

Spencer Region could make a cameo. I think those midgets on the Tech line would have a hard time moving him out of the middle, and if they cut him, he might land on one of them.

I'm going to put the guys out there that make me this promise...
I will hit the QB on every play whether or not he pitches the ball. And when I say hit, I mean absolutely ear hole and crush the soul out of the QB on every single play. If GT wants to run the option and dive at knees all day, then their QB is going to pay the price.
Those are the defenders I want to see out there. I'm not sure who that is at this point.

He would go with the following
Jul 18, 2012, 4:15 PM
|
|
DL - Make sure you get cut
LB - take the pitchman, the Qb never runs the ball
DB's - make sure you nose up into the action, don't worry about the WR, they dont' throw him the ball

it seems to me that the key to stopping this is 1. match up and get stalemates at los. 2. keep ol's ok;ff lb's so they can pursue and fill gaps.
it seems to me that a 53 with a dl head up on every ol does the trick. you're walking a safety up anyway so you're already playing with 3 db's
all else fails i'd watch tape of army-navy games. they seem to defend each other pretty well

Hit the QB repeatedly. Personally I'd send Lateek in as the spy and let him tee off like a missile. He can flat out run! When I played as a kid our coach had us hit the QB on every play, specifically his hips. The term was "hit the middle" every play, hit the QB in his hips.

good, because Brewer, Blanks and Lateek are all going to come up and hit when they have to. I like Stephone, Tig, Parker and maybe Steward if he's healthy and playing well. Quandon is another guy I'd throw in there maybe (he's streaky so that worries me).
I still want 4 guys up front though. Williams and either Barnes or Watson @ DT if one of them steps up and plays to their potential.
Obviously Goodman and Crawford on the ends. DE depth worries me. Obviously we have some good ones coming in, but for not how many legit backups at DE do we have? Vic Beasley looks like he's starting to step up some.

It'd be nice to have Nkemdiche, Montravius and O'Daniel (Assuming we land Montravius) right now on the roster. Throw them in with what we have now and wow.

I think that was because of poor play behind them though. Thompson, Moore, etc. were always up there busting their tails getting through making things happen, but then it seemed like GT would just run for days when they were able to get past that front line.
I have a feeling we're going to be putting it all together. It all starts with attitude under Venables. The pieces we now have are better at LB and in the secondary. Even in the secondary alone we're going to have guys that aren't afraid to step up and HIT now. Brewer, Blanks, Breeland and even Jenkins at his smaller size. At LB it's going to get a lot better and quick, IMO. Stephone is ready to break out. Tig was playing lights out last year for a while. Lateek could be ready to bust out. Same goes for Steward and all of the guys we're bringing in through recruiting (a lot of them blue chippers).

This is all it comes down to when stopping that option IMO..

Some guys are going to get cut, etc. The guys who are still on their feet, flock to the ball and HIT.
If GT is pulling guards or tackles and taking them up the field, then GET OFF THE BLOCK and HIT the #### ball carrier. Hit him over, over and over again.
Just be more physical. Game plan the best you can so that when game-time comes you don't have to think as much as just going out there and filling your lanes and flying to the ball, and HITTING!

The best way to beat GT in the trenches, is to make any and everyone who chop blocks pay a severe price the very moment they go for our legs. Every single one of our defensive players would be given a direct order to step, stomp, or knee drop on any tech people on the ground. Their injury report for their next game should be every starter or back up they have on their offense. That should just about do it!!!

I don't care if he pitches it, passes it, keeps it, or hands it off. I'm telling Townsend, Anthonty, Steward, Goodson, and Willard to plant him in the ground EVERY SINGLE TIME.
