Just wait until your basketball team has 1100 fouls called against it in first half in Cameron Indoor Garage and that will be peanuts compared to your first trip to the House that Michael built in Chapel Hill.

Good luck finishing the game with 5 players

It seems difficult this is from football only...it seems difficult to believe we're that far behind Kansas, Kentucky, UVA, Minnesota, Baylor, Duke, Purdue, Indiana, Syracuse, etc.

Is this athletic departments as a whole?

They are not... Which would add another 22-30 mil. However, SC figures do include the gamecock club. There is little difference between the two schools when you use all revenue sources.

Re: Because they don't have to, and it doesn't matter one way...

Dec 26, 2013, 3:03 PM

I would think in some ways it could help affect recruiting because it would allow coaches to boast about the amount of support given by the fans and how they're always going to be able to provide the best of the best in terms of facilities, equipment, etc. I know it's not huge factor, but I figure it's worth something.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Because they don't have to, and it doesn't matter one way...

Dec 26, 2013, 3:08 PM

The CU Athletics department doesn't have direct access to Iptay funds , the AD has to petition the Iptay board for additional funds to be applied to anything not outlined previously by Iptay. Then again I could be completely mistaken but I believe I'm mostly correct.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's my understanding.***

Dec 26, 2013, 3:13 PM [ in reply to Re: Because they don't have to, and it doesn't matter one way... ]

Clemson sells itself to recruits. All a recruit has to do is visit our campus and go to some of our games and they can tell how much Clemson fans love Clemson and our players. It's called the eye test. Clemson fans for the most part don't leave games early, Gamecock fans for the most part do leave games early.

The Gamecock Club is much smaller than IPTAY….

Dec 26, 2013, 2:53 PM [ in reply to Re: doesn't include donations or Iptay*** ]

even with SCU's success over the past 4 seasons, you still see more IPTAY stickers on cars in the Columbia area. It's rare to run into a gamecock fan that is a member of their booster club. And it's rare to run into a gamecock fan that actually attends the game.

Number of IPTAY stickers you personally see? How many Gamecock Club members and season ticket holders you personally encounter? You must have majored in marketing research at Clemson to come up with methodologies that sophisticated.

For the record, Carolina's average home attendance this year was 82,401 as compared to 80,525 at Clemson.

Dec 26, 2013, 7:29 PM [ in reply to Re: doesn't include donations or Iptay*** ]

IPTAY and Gamecock Club are fundraising entities for the AD, so their contributions are included in the overall AD revenues. the big difference between IPTAY and Gamecock Club's reporting is IPTAY excepts large gifts for the AD, whereas USC runs them through the AD, thus lower revenues for the Gamecock Club. The big reason that USC is far ahead of Clemson is that they field more sports than Clemson, thus they have more expenses too.

Well with that type of revenue, why the ####

Carolina look like Florida or California. Seriously that's how little they have to do in that state. They have some bigger cities than us. But if you have ever been to or driven through Bama, all it is mostly is farmland and wilderness. It's no wonder Bama and Auburn are the two biggest cheaters in college football.

They were not doing it until they started winning. I do a good bit of business with some huge Alabama supporters. They look at football totally different. He said they view Saban as business. "You have to spend money to make money, and a discount coach does not make you money." He also said "Alabama has football and the remainder are nuisance sports we have to play but they #### sure dont get much of our football money."
If we had the same attitude, we might move up to the next level and start winning some national titles.

For the love of all that's Holy

Dec 26, 2013, 1:58 PM

And the Downtime numbers game begins again. Department of Education collects information on athletic budgets on a voluntary basis. This collection is not standardized. Clemson does not report the information collected through IPTAY in this process. South Carolina does report Gamecock Club donations and YES fees in theirs. They are not remotely apples to apples.

Dec 26, 2013, 2:47 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Advantage? What with their dilapidated facilities….

Dec 26, 2013, 3:10 PM

Their football stadium has open air restrooms within 20 feet of the concession stands. Also, if you're under the stands in their football stadium you can see the stands bending downwards. Their stands are just metal stands topped off with concrete. Their Basketball arena is nice, but they do no maintenance on it. Was there for a concert and half the faucets in the rest room didn't work, and there water fountains had stains and didn't work. And they just built their new baseball stadium a few years ago, but they are already having to do a 4 million dollar renovation on it.

It wouldn't matter if SCU brought in the most money of any college sports program, those inbred swine in Columbia still would build either shotty facilities or would do no maintenance on a quality facility they do build.

even private schools have to release some data to have non-profit status from the IRS. also, the NCAA may require this data from all member institutions for valid annual reporting.

Re: Also, how do you get Notre Dame and USC numbers?

Dec 27, 2013, 2:19 AM

All IRS exempt organizations, which ND and S Cal are, must file an IRS Form 990 each year that shows the major revenues and expenses of the organization and most likely would include a schedule for the athletic dept. Guidestar.org tracks it. Also, the NCAA as a member organization, can require its members to disclose this information. If they don't want to disclose it, they don't have to be members. FOIA rules apply differently to public entities which is where the detail of salaries, contracts, etc usually comes from.
