Would you take a job at Clemson if...

Feb 11, 2015, 3:55 PM

you were single, had no family in the area, and would have to take a relatively small pay cut to do it? Asking for a friend who knows the cost of living is low there.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Does this friend have a Clemson connection otherwise?***

Feb 11, 2015, 4:02 PM

They might know the Clemson Federal Relations Director and a few other folks through working for a SC Congressman...

But seriously, I'm not sure I'd want to be 30 and single there.

Might be different if there were larger grad programs

Feb 11, 2015, 4:09 PM

I also don't have aero's network of minions in the Clemson area anymore.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

PHd in Engineering is pretty strong.

Feb 12, 2015, 9:51 AM

3time doesn't have a problem working.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would, because I have enough friends close to have

Feb 11, 2015, 4:05 PM [ in reply to Re: Does this friend have a Clemson connection otherwise?*** ]

some fun. I could go be single in Greenville too. Now, if somebody who didn't go to Clemson had a job opportunity, I'd say explore it, but make Greenville home base.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I live 8 miles from downtown Charleston

Feb 12, 2015, 9:20 AM

and haven't been out down there in > 5 years.

After a while, its all about being comfortable and doing what you want to do...and really, going to a crowded, noisy bar then figuring out how to get home (or paying $50+ for cab fare) ain't my thing anymore.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You aren't going to want to be in Clemson...

Feb 12, 2015, 9:42 AM [ in reply to Re: Does this friend have a Clemson connection otherwise?*** ]

The Greenville area is your best bet, although there is a good bit to do in Anderson.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But..the lakes.

Feb 12, 2015, 9:49 AM

I can;t see why if you can live in the Clemson area, you wouldn't.

But I do have a water/boat addiction, and i guess everyone isn't blessed with that. It's so sad...

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, that's why I live so close to Hartwell and commute

Feb 12, 2015, 9:55 AM

to Greenville. Every possible day I can spend on the lake, I'm out there. However, I have found many don't share the same passion, which is a good thing. I'm all for keeping as many people off the water as possible.

I was SoClose to de-winterizing and putting in last weekend. ####### i/o man.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's the downside to an I/O.

Feb 12, 2015, 9:56 AM

good side is gas mileage.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have the last weekend in March circled...

Feb 12, 2015, 10:07 AM

I will be on the boat rain or shine, cold or hot. I DGAF, I'm tired of winter.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Point. Every year winter seems to get longer and longer

Feb 12, 2015, 10:34 AM

Feb 11, 2015, 5:12 PM

as #### after about 25-26...or about any college town, but especially one as small as Clemson

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, it's really depressing

Feb 11, 2015, 7:53 PM

living on Lake Keowee, going to most every Clemson sporting event year round and being home 15 minutes afterwards, playing golf if I get the whim, or maybe taking the Jeep up to the mountains 20 minutes away. Waking up on Saturday morning and having to decide whether I'm going fishing or hunting, or maybe just do some trail hiking.

You think there are no single women around here over the age of 23? It's like every other place around, except with a bunch more intelligent college graduates (professors, PhD researchers, etc.). Who do you think works at the university and leads all these students?

For me, the only drawback is having to go to Atlanta or Asheville to see decent concerts.
And having to clean the house for friends wanting to crash for football games and live like me for a weekend.

Yeah, life is really depressing up here.

She should probably be between a 6.75 and 7.25. Have a "real relationship" with her all while figuring out who in her other circle really doesn't like her. I'd wager you could find at least one smoke show in the punch. Have some fun and repeat the process.

I've actually done some cipherin' on this very subject, and I figure I'd take up to a 30% pay cut to live there. I mean I've always wanted to live there since I was in school--why not? What do I have to lose? At my age my career is pretty much where it's going to go..so, yeah.

fraternity brothers who are retiring to Clemson, or are taking their non-site-specific workplaces there. Access to GSP and Atlanta airports is not too bad, and you get to be around Clemson, and close to Greenville.

It isn't a bad place to be. At all.
