We should Hire Shaka Smart from VCU!

Shaka Smart was the assistant basketball coach when Purnell was here! Since then he went to VCU where he has had a NCAA tourney team every year! He has minimal pay, minimal resources and a small gym! Yet he is successful at evaluating talent and recruiting! Something Brad has not been able to do! It's been 4-5 years with Brad! Hes a nice guy but hes not producing and i dont see much hope for next year as well! Something needs to change with our basketball program and a new gym wont matter if you cant win in it! My wish: Clemson Board step up and finally pay some money to lure a great coach and lets turn this program around instead of stomping it in the ground! Or Brad change something scheme wise! More aggressive offense pace or full court press something

Should also add Shaka knows the high schools around Clemsons recruiting grounds already! This idea would be feasible

While at his current job he gets to recruit Virginia and DC, all while not having to share the spotlight with football.

Shaka is NOT UNDERPAID. Got big raise in past two years when being mentioned as a target by bigger programs. He & his wife like Richmond.
BTW--A full court press isn't the answer. Did you check out DePaul in Oliver's 5th season at the Chicago school. They got beaten last evening by the last place team in Big East tourney.
Brad isn't perfect and the recruiting has been lousy for most part; I give you that. He has to change that situation and soon.

I think many of the top programs in college basketball have already went after him. I think he is waiting for something specific.

One thing you forget. He has already been here. He knows first hand what he would be facing - no tradition, questionable support, recuit and play against Syricuse, Louisville, UNC Duke , etc.
Why on earth would he want the gig?

True but man he could really change things for us! Mainly recruiting talent but also hes not afraid to score points instead of letting the clock strike 10 seconds to do so! Only reason Brad had 1-2 decent seasons in his tenure is bc of one player KJ! That should tell you about his system: it sucks if one player makes or breaks the team!

Smart has a $1.5 million guaranteed salary at VCU and his buyout is only $800,000.
I think it would take an annual salary offer of between $2 million to $2.3 million to attrach Coach Smart to Clemson.
The contract and the buyout for Coach Smart are not the problem.
The problem is Brownell's $5 million buy out.

Marquette offered Smart 6 years 20 million so 3.33 million a year and he turned it down. It was back loaded but the total was 20 over 6.
Ben Howland made 2.5 at UCLA his last season so it stands to reason that UCLA would offer Smart that much at least.
Illinois did not release the offer they made to Smart in 2012 but said it was higher than what Izzo made at Michigan St. Izzo made $3.3 per season
NC State pays MG $1.95 per year and Smart did not even listen to NC State or interview at that number

I have always felt like Coach Smart was waiting for the chance to return to Clemson. I suggested his hire before we brought BB on board. With the contract BB has, I don't see him leaving.
Recruiting HAS to improve right away,. I think!
