Good...I'm for moving the college game closer

Nov 6, 2013, 10:13 AM

To the pro game, up to and including the use of wooden bats. I understand the bats they use now behave more similarly to wooden bats than before.

Hilarious after we spend all that money to move home plate. Oh well move it back and spend a boatload again. pretty much like what they are pulling with the Westzone and new football ops. It is only money and CU clearly has more than they need the way they are acting

Will teams start using the ball this year? Or will they have

Nov 6, 2013, 11:21 AM

to wait until the year that they are first used in the CWS? The article is not clear.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

2015...

Nov 6, 2013, 11:25 AM

It's too close to the season (100 days to be exact) to put the new ball into play now. Plus, that will give teams a chance to use it during fall practice next year before using it for games.

So, they deaden the bats, then a few years later liven the

ball?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They aren't going to liven the ball

Nov 6, 2013, 12:21 PM

Lowering the seams will just reduce the wind resistance on the ball. It won't come off the bat any faster etc but might travel farther.

Re: Baseball Update: NCAA adopts new baseball

Nov 6, 2013, 12:44 PM

Will this not affect the pitchers and the movement on the ball? The seams play a pretty important role on pitch types and how the ball is gripped correct?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes

Nov 6, 2013, 1:29 PM

But it was a bigger deal when they were playing gorilla ball with cannons instead of bats. You needed the extra movement and the flight reduction to offset the hitters advantage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So should Clemson have not moved homeplate up?

Nov 6, 2013, 2:16 PM

May be too many homeruns with ball change and homeplate moved.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Won't change much

Nov 6, 2013, 2:49 PM

you don't get too many "excuse me" homeruns at DKS.

Really all this change to the ball will do is let balls that are hit solidly go like they are supposed to. 8 feet or whatever it was plus the new ball won't make too much difference.
