The young man does have a point if there are major health issues in his family. In my former job I designed daily routes for drivers and traveled all over this state by road. From Clemson to Ft. Lawn is about 2 1/2 hours (130 miles) if you are lucky, much of it going on I-85(the busiest interstate in this state) and through Greenville and Spartanburg traffic. From Columbia it is less than 60 miles, most of it on I-77(the least traveled interstate in this state) and about an hour with no traffic once you leave Columbia. I will take the young man at his word until something proves different.

It said Tennessee CONTACTED him, but says nothing about him talking to them. It specifically says that he talked to USC-Eastern coaches and compliance.

Perhaps his aspirations are no greater than playing in the Outback Bowl.
It could be some aversion to playing for conference or national championships.
Maybe he doesn't like having to compete for playing time.
If that's the case then $CU is the right place for him.
Or maybe it really is a family health issue.
Whatever the case, I think we can all attest, to varying degrees, that a lot of things are done for foolish reasons at that age.
The one thing I find interesting is that, for whatever reason, he felt the need or was advised to involve an attorney.

A UT sports show tweeted that Belk would be visiting Tennessee next weekend. If that happens, it shows the “sick mom” story was a bluff.
None of his Clemson teammates have said one thing on Twitter, no retweets, no support at all, however in the last few weeks they publically supported their other teammates who announced they were transferring. I think that is very telling.
Listen, this young man can play wherever the heck he wants. He just needs to be straight with people.

He is obviously a spy who was sent to infiltrate our defensive unit and expose our weaknesses. Normally I would be very concerned about this, but after careful consideration and examining every aspect of this. Dabo and myself have come to the conclusion that we have nothing to fear. Mr Belk being a freshman, will only retain so much information from his time here. We have instructed Coach Venables to alter the codes and we have our backup signal decoders ready to go. No worries gents, here at the counter inelegance office we've got things under control!
