For a team that has had recent sucess putting DE's in the

Feb 5, 2014, 11:42 AM

pro's, it is a headscratcher that we are having such a hard time closing the deal lately. We have signed 5 DE's in the past four years. Hopefully i am not missing someboday.
Corey Crawford
Shaq Lawson
Kevin Dodd
Marin Aiken
Dane Rogers

Now that being said two of these guys are bad ##### and one was highly ranked, but we have lost out on many the last couple of years. So if we miss on Williams, we just will not sign a DE this year????

we suck!!!!***

Feb 5, 2014, 11:45 AM

I've seen yeargin listed as a LB and as a DE.

But to your point you do wonder why such a strong position seems to be such a battle at times recruiting wise

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If it's such a strong position and has been for years

Feb 5, 2014, 11:49 AM

then it's apparently not the battle that you guys are making it out to be

Feb 5, 2014, 11:45 AM

Ebo and Byers?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

null

Yeargin is listed on tigernet as a DE and OLB,

Feb 5, 2014, 11:46 AM

Will probably play whichever needs more help

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeargin will play Jack/Bandit whichever you want to call it.

Feb 5, 2014, 11:49 AM

He will not play OLB. Also look for Chris Register to possibly move to DE

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ebo...***

Feb 5, 2014, 11:46 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Register will be a DE for us.

Feb 5, 2014, 11:46 AM

There's a good chance Yeargin ends up there as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We signed a 10*......

Feb 5, 2014, 11:47 AM

Trust the coaches some on this. They have their plan. I promise you that some of these LBs signed will be groomed into DE.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Byers, Ogundeko and I think one of the LBs we signed

Feb 5, 2014, 11:47 AM

is considered a DE

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Beasley coming back probably had some influence ...

Feb 5, 2014, 11:47 AM

we're pretty loaded for any guy hoping to get on the field as a true freshman.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct-- we have 8 guys coming back and 2 signed that

Feb 5, 2014, 11:52 AM

will likely play DE(Register and Yeargin)--- not really a position of need-- if anything, we have too many-- only 2 can play

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Correct-- we have 8 guys coming back and 2 signed that

Feb 5, 2014, 12:11 PM

What if Register and Yeargin are not DE's.

2014 season we will have Seniors

Corey Crawford
Vic Beasley
Tavaris Barnes

The following year we will have
Rodrick Byers
Shaq Laws
Kevin Dodd
Martin Aiken
Dane Rogers

Man even with all those numbers i am pretty sure our coaches would like to sign a DE. Maybe Andrew Williams will suprise us or hell maybe we pull in several next year. We will be fine, but next year, we HAVE to pull in a couple really good ones.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depth is a huge part of the problem

Feb 5, 2014, 1:14 PM

A kid this year looks and sees the entire two deep from 2013 is back for this season with a couple players coming off redshirt years, so unless you are all-world you are looking to at least 2015 until you get on the field at all. Shaq Lawson is projecting to be one starter in 2015 with the way he played in 2013, so that limits playing time that much more.

Register and Yeargin are both capable of playing DE if the need arises, so while it was a concern it wasn't a must fill need like WR was this year and DB was last year.

Ever heard of Vic Beasley?? We are fine at DE***

Re: Ever heard of Vic Beasley?? We are fine at DE***

Feb 5, 2014, 11:56 AM

That was kind of the point of the post there cupton. We have had guys like Beasley and Bowers and others who are badasses but the last couple of years, we are not recruiting very well at that position. We have missed out on SEVERAL DE the last two years. Our 2011 and 2012 DE recruiting is providing very solid DE's but after that??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can't help but feel you are missing his point

Feb 5, 2014, 12:28 PM

Some top flight recruits want to hit the field immediately. They can't do that here, we're loaded right now.

That's why we're losing out on some of these highly touted DEs. It's one of those embarrassment of riches type deals.

We should have an easier time of it next cycle when the chance for early playing time will be higher (though still a tough task).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think Beasley was recruited as a DE was he?

Feb 5, 2014, 12:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Ever heard of Vic Beasley?? We are fine at DE*** ]

I know he's played several positions already...

With that said, I'll trust our staff to develop players like Yeargin, Register, Robinson, or anyone else they choose to try out at the DE spot.

You signed and educated one of the greatest DE's in the history of football. Guy scared the life out of a Michigan OT and became a youtube.com one hit wonder
