Transfers from PSU, interesting...

Saw that any schools that take in PSU transfers might not have those scholarships count against their number in 2012-13.
Really? This would just encourage schools to go fishing!!

Yeah it would still be difficult to take more than 2-3 because of the reduction in scholarship limits in 13-14, but taking 1 or 2 would be a big help to teams with needs. Kind of like taking a JUCO player.

with the kids currently on scholarship at Penn State.
My guess is that any student-athletes interested in transferring would have to initiate the contact.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to whole sale desertion from Penn State. Once you bond with your team mates its hard to break that bond. The only ones that might leave would be the kids that ain't playing much. Which means you're probably not going to be able to skim the cream.

According to the NCAA (http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/20120723/21207234):
Additionally, the NCAA is considering waiving scholarship limits for programs to which these football student-athletes transfer, provided they reduce proportionately in the next year. For example, the limit is 25 new scholarships per year to a total of 85 scholarships. If the limits are waived in 2012-13 to accommodate one Penn State student-athlete who wishes to transfer to a particular school already at the limits, in 2013-14 the school will be limited to 24 new scholarships and 84 total scholarships
Schools would likely be somewhat carefull who they picked. If you add 10 PSU players then the next year you suddenly have 10 fewer scholarships (75 instead of 85). Almost looks like they are penalizing teams for taking the PSU guys.
