Spurrier to Florida?

Sep 26, 2014, 3:11 PM

I heard a rumor that Florida is interested in bring The OBC back to finish his career with another NC. Spurrier can finally go toe to toe with Bama and show Saban who is the best coach in college football. Would SCar hire Muschamp?

The coots would spontaneously combust if ole ball sack would leave. He is there entire identity. To hear it froze them, their history and traditions is only 5 years old.

Re: Spurrier to Florida?

Sep 26, 2014, 3:18 PM

If it's the same AD at Florida as when Spurrier went to SCU, then I doubt that would happen.

There's seems to be some bad blood there. Florida wanted Spurrier to interview whereas the OBS "assumed" he would get the job just by stating his interest.

The egotistical one decided to take his talents to the asscrack of the South instead.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, same AD. Jeremy Foley has been UF's AD since 1992.

Maybe BoT has decided Foley needs to exit with his boy Muschamp.

Re: Spurrier to Florida?

Sep 26, 2014, 4:36 PM [ in reply to Re: Spurrier to Florida? ]

Foley really gave him the cold shoulder. He actually asked Spurrier to e-mail him his resume. True story.

Spurrier's response was pretty classic Spurrier: he told Foley to "check his #### trophy case."

Whatever you think of Spurrier, asking him for his resume and then giving him the dust-off is kind of...officious, and bespeaks some pretty marginal people-management skills. At the very least you preserve your option...and don't go deliberately alienating a guy who won a Heismann for you as a QB and then a pile of SEC titles and a national championship for you as well.

Foley went with Urban Meyer instead. Meyer did get himself a national title - and then UF in turn got a hatful of problems when Meyer burned out in classic flameout fashion, incidentally bequeathing UF a locker room basically full of proleboys; Meyer had not exactly run a tight ship there at UF. And of course, South Carolina got themselves the OBC.

It is very doubtful that Foley - who is acquiring a reputation as a meddlesome control-freak AD who does not exactly support even his own hires - would hire Spurrier back...just as I find it doubtful Spurrier would ever consent to work for him. The OBC enjoying sticking it to UF too much at South Carolina anyhow.

Stranger stuff has happened, I suppose...but unless UF does an abrupt about-face and extends a really sincere olive branch I don't see it happening.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's incorrect too

Sep 26, 2014, 5:01 PM [ in reply to Re: Spurrier to Florida? ]

Foley and Spurrier didn't get along that well toward the end of his coaching career at Florida.

Has little to do with him "not wanting to interview" at Florida- which he shouldn't have had to do - but wasn't interested in doing anyway.

It doesn't make you egotistical (all coaches have big egos and Spurrier's is quite big) to not want to interview at a place where you won a national title.

A lot of national title winning coaches don't "INTERVIEW" for a job. Their agents are approached - and they either want them or not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coot, you are wrong. Spurrier's EGO would not allow him to

Sep 26, 2014, 11:26 PM

return to UF if he had to interview for the job. AND I believe everyone who is not drinking the Coot-Aide knows that.

He is your jerk. Glad you love him. No one else does.

UF won't hire spurrier 'cause he won't interview for the position. End of story.

Ye olde ball sack won't leave UsuC because of 3 things. 1) he is a God there, makes 4+ million a year and got as a perk for coming to UsuC a membership at Augusta National. Those are almost impossible to get but Hootie Johnson, former Chairman at Augusta National and big$$$ donor to UsuC arranged for him to get that. 2) His EGO. He wants to take his Coots" to the top. 3) the 87 ft shrine they have plastered on the roach palace! Who would ever want to leave....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong

Sep 26, 2014, 4:57 PM

You are incorrect.

Spurrier isn't a member of Augusta National.

He won't leave because

1) There is no opening at Florida.
2) He's in a good situation at South Carolina.
3) He's too old to go back to Florida.
4) He's not interested in going back to Florida.
5) Jeremy Foley and Spurrier aren't best buddies.
6) Anything short of winning the national championship - possibly more than once - at Florida will be seen as a huge failure and Spurrier knows that quite well.

Re: Wrong

In 4 yrs SOS would dominate the conference. Question...

Sep 26, 2014, 5:05 PM

anybody really think he'll spend four more years in coaching, really?

Little known story: Spurrier kept on accusing FSU of cheating and wanted the UF administration to start complaining about it, the UF administration refused because they didn't have anything on FSU cheating and told Spurrier to stop it because it was getting embarrassing.

Sep 27, 2014, 7:52 AM

I highly doubt FL would want him back. There are no guarantees that he would bring them back for a national championship plus I would say Spurrier has maybe 2-3 yrs of coaching left. I'm sure there would be alot of unhappy FL fans if that were to happen. I think Urban Meyer has a better chance of returning to FL than Spurrier does
