If Travis feels that he's not fully recovered from his ACL injury, then the staff should listen to him and grant him a redshirt. No one, not even doctors, can tell anyone that they are ready to go after they had a torn ACL. I've had one and I can tell you it's one he$$ of an injury. The muscles in the affected leg atrophy, and it is an arduous process to rebuild that muscle mass and strength. And then there's the lingering fear that your knee is going to buckle, even though it may be physically sound. Give Travis a year, let make himself into a beast in the weight room, and he'll be back next season as a force of nature.

Another key to Blanks redshirting is that Kellen Jones is healthy ... could he play SAM.

Wiggins is the man at nickel. He was excellent there as a true freshman and now has experience, and should only be that much better. My intuition tells me Blanks knows how good Wiggins is and that this year would be a waste to go in and try competing with him while he's not 100%.
