Truck features Kweshion Air

Jun 27, 2019, 2:03 PM

I'm looking at 2 trucks right now. Same year, make and model (F150 Xlt).

Juan is a 4x4.

Juan is 4x2 but has Navigation and remote start (tickl_it really likes remote start and has it on all his cars now).

I caint really decide which one is more important to me. For 7 year Tickle_it drove himself a nice 4x2 truck that didn't have any of that fancy Navigation or remote start and ever thing was fine. Now he has it and loves it on his ford Exploder (along with AWD - it's not 4x4 ford you idjits).

Any hoo, the remote start and Nav wood probabs get used more than 4x4 as tickle_it isn't poor and drives on paved roads. Only time he uses it is for mega-icestorms in the upstate when he has to drive his nurse wife to the hospital to patch up dumbshits driving and wrecking on icy roads. Butt then again, I said last time I had a truck if i Ever get anothern it would be 4x4.

Wat do jounge?

For my troubles:

I'd go 4x4 if you're planning for the coming apocalypse.

Jun 27, 2019, 2:09 PM

But, I'd say go with the fancy features if you plan on dying early in the coming apocalypse.

5 years....it could be useful for a full size pickup....Not necessarily required for shorter wheelbase vehicles with better load distribution.

Personally, I've decided to hold out for this one.

This and be a man. Who the #### would drive or even purchase a truck that is 4x2. That just blows my mind.

Your phone has Nav and you can get a remote start

added to the truck for $400 or less.

How much does it cost to add 4x4 to a 4x2?

Difference in sticker is $3,495***

wondering if I really 'need' that 4x4 in a 4(lol)Runner or whatever similar....

I've never NOT had a 4WD/AWD, but since living in SC ('04), there's only been a very small handful of times I was thankful i did...

You really have to decide if you want to continue

being a man or if you are a pansy boy who doesn't drive a full size pickemup truck with 4x8, trucknuts, Drake stickers on the back, Costas hanging from the mirror, and one of those stickers that essentially say "from my cold dead hands" or whatever Moanin Aquabe (I really have no idea what actual letters it is) means.

Wouldn't buy a truck without 4x4, even though I don't use it

Jun 27, 2019, 2:33 PM

that much - comes in handy when you do need it...

I have remote start, but I never remember that I have it.

Waze is better and more up-to-date than any builtin navigation. Plus I can mount my phone higher than builtin nav, so don't have to look down as much (I always turn off the voice prompts).

2016 Ram Rebel driver, happy to help.

I've already decided that once this truck is paid off next year, I'm keeping it for truck duty, and buying a Subaru Outback or something like that. Something with good gas mileage and AWD, that I can haul a bicycle all around to trails and such. New trucks just cost too much these days...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

just recently started thinking about keeping my POS*

Jun 27, 2019, 2:43 PM

highlander (since it's worth much more to ME, than it is as a trade-in/sale) for SUV-y and AWD thangs, and going with a smaller fuel efficient sedan as my daily drive-to-the-office-and-back driver

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

oh...the asterisk

Jun 27, 2019, 2:44 PM

*it's not really a POS, i'm just tired of it and want something new/different

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FWIW, hard to find a 4x2 F150 around here unless

Jun 27, 2019, 2:44 PM

It’s a work truck. Of course, guys around here do Manly stuff like drive in the mountains off road, and in snow and stuff.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Higher end Ford trucks hold their vaue pretty good.

Jun 27, 2019, 2:58 PM

The lower end trucks (like a 4x2 XLT) drop their value like a slightly used engagement ring.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

4x4. Does it have Sync?

Jun 27, 2019, 3:14 PM

Sync gets you Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Both use Google maps on your display and much better than Ford Navigation. Navigation also requires an annual map update that Ford charges for. I have Nav in my 2018 F-150 and almost never use it. I use Google Maps every time.

Also, 4x4 has a much better resale.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you wont use Nav. I promise

Jun 27, 2019, 3:43 PM

i just got a 19 F250 and Nav was on my list of "needs"

I find myself using Waze much more.

Plus, how often do you NOT know where you are going?

I do have remote start, but alas, remote start can be added.

We bought my mom Ford remote start for her '15 Explorer. it was about $200.

I have been driving a truck since 1999 and this is my first 4x4.

you dont need 4x4 until you NEED 4x4.

I'd also look at miles, maintenance records etc. If there is a hint of abuse to the 4x4 by a youngster, I would bale!

Also, 2wd will get 1-2 mpg better mileage.

In summary.

you can add remote start

you dont need nav (because waze etc)

you cant substitute 4x4 if you ever need it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whale, I only buy new cars so no need for history

Jun 27, 2019, 10:19 PM

but yeah I used to use waze back when I had my old truck that was kinda pre-navigation generation. I just like having it in the console and it calling it out to me. Bought it on my last 3 cars but I think I'm going to skip it on this juan since it won't be our workhorse vehicle like my Exploder was (until kid #3 and a minivan).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I added remote start to my car

Jun 28, 2019, 4:14 AM

I don't use it except when I want to show people how cool I am. I will have a 4 wheel drive truck till the day I die. My next truck should be my last one, so its going to have everything I want.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

just axing: why is remote start a notable feature?

Jun 28, 2019, 9:12 AM

I've had vehicles with it and honestly never used it except to test if it worked or not.

Yeah, you can cite the cold morning get-the-interior-toasty-warm convenience, but I never remembered to set the heat/defrost on high when I got out of the truck the night before, so I had to traipse out to the truck regardless. Kinda defeated the entire purpose.

Thus, never used. Maybe I was doing it wrong :(

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At least on my GMC, and I'm guessing the Fords too

Jun 28, 2019, 9:25 AM

when its above 80 degrees out, the remote start turns on my A/C and cooled seats. When its below 40 (I think) it turns on my heater, my heated seats and steering wheel.

I use that feature probably 9/10 times getting in the truck.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

a newer generation with sensors would be a vast improvement

Jun 28, 2019, 9:42 AM

I suppose my earlier iteration of this soured me on its functional use, so I've never had a desire for it since. Maybe on my next vehicle it will.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I use mine daily

Jun 28, 2019, 9:45 AM [ in reply to At least on my GMC, and I'm guessing the Fords too ]

And methinks it helps warm the engine 30 seconds more before I put it in drive which is good, right?

Also, I use the app on my phone when it get real hot and I want it cool when I get there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, but you can't turn off your car.***

Jun 28, 2019, 9:54 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the one I had, you just hit the button again and it

Jun 28, 2019, 10:16 AM

kills it. That and it would only run a certain amount of time. I'm bummed that my current truck doesn't have it. Will be adding it on before winter.

1) like IE said, it cools or heats automatically

Jun 28, 2019, 11:53 AM [ in reply to just axing: why is remote start a notable feature? ]

and B) I can have the kids in the car. Get out. Lock it. Then start it up to keep the air running for them while allowing no one to steal my car.
