but like all engineering projects- all excess expenses are "value engineered" out just prior to construction.

having spent the first 2 years of my former career laying out stairs and public bathrooms, I can tell you that it does not matter what you design, the builder is going to pick the hardware and could care less if people can see you pewping.

Thats the architects fault. Nothing to do with engineers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

engineers design the cheap hardware

Dec 24, 2013, 10:05 AM

All the architect cares about is if the stall layout is compliant to ADA codes. If you are tight for space, then you really do not have a choice but to mount the door right on the partition, which leaves a gap.

cheap owner=cheap hardware.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because the walls are cheap.

Dec 24, 2013, 3:53 PM

The partitions are cheap and the door is cheep. It takes huge fasteners to hold two pieces of cardboard housed by a piece of cheap laminate together. Engineer factor in impact loads in their design (so we can slam fat girls up against them cause we don't want our wives catching us hitting it in our offices cause they'd just laugh).

Architects want to spend owner's money on parapets and cupolas as a monument to themselves. Owners think they are getting something great.

I understand engineers, work with me here.

Not an engineering problem. It's a production / QC problem
