Woot has YETI Hopper Flips (and some others) today.

Jul 12, 2019, 2:23 PM

Still way overpriced, but marked down slightly from list. I'd probably use the Flip 18, as it'd be more appropriate than the Hopper 30 I've had for a coupla years if I'm wandering over to somebody's house to throw back 6-12 cold ones. $299 on the YETI site, $209 today on Woot, which is still overpriced by about $100. Now, if Woot had this charcoal color...I might think a little longer about it.

But they only have the green/khaki.

that I have been thinking of getting. Why? I picked up a 5 gallon bucket that was full of stuff in my shed the other day and the bottom fell out if it.

Also..wish WOOT! had these on sale. These things are like military quality. They are teh awesome:

Tell you what I'd like to find......

Jul 12, 2019, 2:50 PM

One of these.....a JanSport World Traveler bag. I'm 43. My parents bought one for me in 1992 when I was a sophomore in high school and it has been my go-to bag for trips up to a week my whole life. It FINALLY busted a seam this past year. Word is they don't even make them anymore, and that's a shame. It was basically a duffel bag, with a pocket on the back that zipped and another on the bottom. You could carry it with a handle on the side, but it had built in straps so you could carry it like a big backpack. Thing is/was awesome, for 27 years too! Pic is like mine except mine was black and not gray.

Jul 12, 2019, 3:13 PM

But not exactly. Would like a new one. Already contacted JanSport and they said they would send a "like" replacement. Wife's working on that for my birthday I think. They have a lifetime warranty. Still got my JanSport backpack stuck on a shelf in the garage from my last day at Clemson. Still has the books, and notebooks, etc. from my last exam. Thing will be a time capsule if I ever open it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-tiggity-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why do you would still have that?

Jul 12, 2019, 3:19 PM

You either 1) haven't moved recently, 2) never plan on moving, and/or 3) have way too much room in your house for "stuff".

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I moved once. Sat on a shelf in my old garage.***

Jul 12, 2019, 4:20 PM [ in reply to Tell you what I'd like to find...... ]

Mrs. Tig has had the Jansport Eurosak for 20 years, and it's by far the best carry-on bag that I have ever seen. Nobody even makes a clamshell opening carry-on anymore. That bag has been all over the world and she still uses it. The shoulder strap finally broke as we were coming back from San Diego in June, but the bag itself is still going strong. I looked for one a few years after they quit making them and they still show up on websites but when you go to buy it's out of stock. I see they have since re-purposed the name Eurosak for a backpack, but not the same animal. I would KILL to get my hands on one of these treasures today. I mean, I'd kill for fun and all, but definitely to get a Eurosak.

This is the exact bag and color of Mrs. Tig's bag...

anymore. Through some research I've learned my pack was somewhere in the neighborhood of 65-75L in size. This is about the best they've got now....but it's more of a hiking than travel backpack.

size but she has never had an issue getting on the plane with it. The closest thing I can find to it is the Eagle Creek Global Companion, but the one thing I don't like about it is the fact that the backpack straps are not stowable. Other than that, it sort of fits my criteria.

There was another Osprey model that had a detachable

section. That way on the plane you could detach a small part off the bag and put it under the seat in front of you and the rest could be stowed away overhead. Think it was smaller than the 80 liter and another model though.

Here it is. 60L version.

Get a bag of ice and a 12 pack of your favorite beverage

Jul 12, 2019, 3:22 PM

Pour all of that in your yeti. Also, put a little water and some rock salt in there, too.

When you open your beverage, it will have ice crystals form ever so slightly on the top of the liquid.

That is, unless you're drinking some pansy craft beer that has to be room temperature or something.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Get a bag of ice and a 12 pack of your favorite beverage

Jul 12, 2019, 3:25 PM

i found the real trick is to let it cool down, like take to basement or in the house. I put just a couple of ice packs in there a couple hours before use and the ice literally will last days upon days. Even in the hopper

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've learned the trick with cooling it down.

Jul 12, 2019, 3:34 PM

usually buy 3 bags of ice. One for cooling, two for using.

Keeping it in the vehicle, the ice usually lasts 3-4 days as long as I'm not constantly opening and closing.

My shiti's ice lasts 12 hours max

Re: Get a bag of ice and a 12 pack of your favorite beverage

Jul 12, 2019, 3:38 PM [ in reply to Re: Get a bag of ice and a 12 pack of your favorite beverage ]

I found it is best to keep your kids' grubby hands out of the cooler if you want the ice to not melt. Otherwise, you spend your entire beach day telling the kids to close the fucking cooler so the bought air doesn't get out. Beers still stayed cold, even on days where we just used frozen gatorade bottles of water as ice packs.
