Nike investors feeling the pain!

Sep 7, 2018, 12:13 PM

Stock has pretty much erased the small 3% loss from earlier in the week. Soon will be breaking 52 week highs again.

Wish someone would leak Nike’s marketing study ...

On the Kaepernick campaign. There would be some interesting analysis across demographics as well as sensitivity/ risk considerations.

Do they really care in these situations?

Sep 7, 2018, 12:51 PM

It's all about flattering the higher-ups' sense of importance by situating them on the right team in a social struggle. Practically, it probably does keep the brand in the news a good bit more, even if it does #### a lot of people off with a divisive message. But these big businesses have learned that the right doesn't have much cultural power, so it doesn't matter how much they #### off the right.

So, basically, they're looking for a whole series of this?

Sep 7, 2018, 12:57 PM

Oh, joy. I know what we were all really wanting was even more corporate politicization of sports. Thanks, Nike!

I’m curious...I hear a lot of “Nike has always pushed the envelope”

Sep 7, 2018, 1:08 PM

but have they? And have they ever done so with such a blatantly polarizing character?

People are saying that Tiger, or Serena, or whatever, have been political or controversial. But these are people at the top of their sport. Kap is JUST his politics. He’s otherwise a mediocre QB who doesn’t even play anymore.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where it goes. I am not sure where the OP is seeing that they have reclaimed the losses from earlier in the week. I don’t see that on the chart. My guess is that you won’t see some big plummet. It will be interesting to see if they have ANY sales impact, but we won’t know that for a few months at the earliest.

Of course we see sales data immediately. So far looks like Nike made the right call.

You'll figure it out later. These guys don't drive Nike's sales. What Trump says doesn't matter.

What these guys say and do drives Nike sales.

I don't see how Serena or Tiger were controversial

At least certainly not in the way Kaepernick is.

NKE's intraday high was just over 81 today before the market turned and they closed at just over 82 last Friday. Folks were making a big deal over the "sell off"on Tuesday but to me a 3% loss is just more or less everyday noise. When the market rallies, NKE will be carried with it.

Nike doesn't give a chit about your cause or politics only the bottom dollar.

Congrats on whatever you called.

I don't own NKE directly but I know some of my funds own it. I'm just reflecting on the success of the boycotters so far.

The other day I read where Nike's plan is targeting

Sep 7, 2018, 5:48 PM

12 (?) big city markets... most were large foreign markets even before their controversial campaign kicked off. They lost a lot of American customers and even if their shares hit record highs in the future they have burned bridges in their home country. Their new target really has nothing to do with the controversy over a former nfl qb. They gambled and will make some money despite the cost of many fans and exposed their middle finger to America. Obviously they could care less about a large # of US citizens and only care about their bank accounts. With that said, #### em, I'll buy something else.

Kapernick's 49er's NFL jersey sold the 3rd most out of anyone last year and he wasn't even in the league. That had to be the first clue for NIKE. The people protesting are just helping Colin. His line of apparel with NIKE is going to be a huge success. He is gets royalties on it too.

I have a hard time finding any reason

Sep 7, 2018, 6:08 PM

to care whom Nike or any other company chooses as a spokesperson, or whatever you call them. I turn the channel during commercials, and I have Adblockers on the internet, so I don't know whom any company is really using to market their product.

I just buy stuff if I like it, and don't buy it if I don't.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.
