What exactly was the ump thinking? Where the catcher sets up has absolutely nothing to do with where the ball crosses the plate.

Why throw 5 straight fastballs?

You had him 0-2 and he kept fouling off fastballs, catching up to it a little bit more every pitch. Then boom a base hit. Umps miss pitches, but the ump didn't keep calling fastball, fastball fastball. Any college baseball player can catch up to a good fastball given enough tries.
