Why is UNC football ranked in top 25?

Aug 17, 2014, 3:49 PM

It only helps Clemson's strength of schedule but I just don't see top 25. I can't wait to pound them at home.

with exception to the clemson game, they have a ridiculously easy schedule.

Because they are great in everything that they do! I hear it daily.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The most ridiculous schedule they have . . .

Aug 17, 2014, 4:18 PM

is their class schedule, because they won't be attending!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

strength of schedule? tougher than C.U.

Aug 18, 2014, 8:39 AM [ in reply to Re: Why is UNC football ranked in top 25? ]

according to the NCAA method.

http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2014/MAR14/DBMar15.html

3 of the first 4 games are against teams that won bowl games last year: San Diego St, @ECU, @Clemson

they could easily be 1-2 coming into DV

plus they go to Notre Dame in the "looming-NCAA-punishment bowl"

What about the common sense method? Clemson is the reason is the highest ranked team on the schedule and the only other is ND...and well who knows how they will be after their latest fiasco.

They might be pretty good this year.

Because they are good at creating fake things....from fake classes to fake hype

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they closed pretty well last year

Aug 18, 2014, 8:33 AM

won 6 of the last 7 (and would have won all 7 if not for a foolish choke against Dook)

ended up 6-6 in the regular season, but could easily have been 8-4 or even 9-3

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They only played two decent teams in that stretch

Aug 18, 2014, 9:20 AM

They lost to Duke and beat Cincy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Could easily have been"

Aug 18, 2014, 9:24 AM [ in reply to they closed pretty well last year ]

What?

We can play this game all day.

If Clemson had outscored their opponents in every game in their history, then we'd have no losses all-time.

6-6, dude. Hat's off for them salvaging their season, but let's go with facts rather than what-ifs.

i know: 'coulda, woulda, shoulda'... guilty as charged

Aug 18, 2014, 1:26 PM

but they lost two games - Dook and Miami - they should have won

and they were better than VaTech

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

VaTech was awful

Aug 18, 2014, 1:47 PM

A lot of teams were better than them.

They lost to the 6 teams that were better than them and beat the 6 teams they were better than, it just so happened the schedule was "front-loaded."

It is a good sign for the ACC that a middle of the pack - at best - team is given the benefit of the doubt and ranked. I'd bet my house that we beat them by three td's.

After the last game in 2011 I had a tarhole family member say to me "penalties and turnovers" when we walked back to our car. If you recall we pulled Boyd and most of our starters in the 3rd quarter when we were up 59-24, but somehow to this guy this game was two evenly matched teams, and it was just real bad luck and officiating that cost the tarholes the game. Unreal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not exactly

Aug 18, 2014, 1:34 PM

IMO they lost to 2 teams - Dook and VaTech - that weren't better teams

2011? i remember a close game for the first half.

the difference in Tiger talent came through in the 3rd Q.

Tajh threw a TD with less than 2:00 to go in the 3rd, so i don't think it's fair to say they were pulled in the third, after the 3rd, sure

but your 'penalties and turnovers' strikes home.
Fedora's teams seem a bit sloppy and somewhat undisciplined to me.

way too many costly penalties last year (a really stupid one pretty much lost the Dook game)

Re: not exactly

Aug 18, 2014, 2:19 PM

Duke was clearly a better team. I actually watched some of that game and they were the better team to any objective, informed college football fan. I don't think I saw much or any of the VT game, but I also saw the NCSU game and I thought State was the better team but shot themselves in the foot and pretty much gave the game away. Same could be said for Pitt. I'm pretty sure your Holes got beat statistically but still won those two. Good for them. But obviously somewhere theres a homer Pitt or NCSU fan much like yourself that think they shoulda, coulda, woulda beat the tarholes. Usually works both ways.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"beat statistically" ?? that's a good one

Aug 18, 2014, 4:25 PM

guess what, Cincy "beat" UNC "statistically" in a bowl game they lost by 22 points

the only stat that matters is the final score.

"objective" and "college football fan" can rarely be used to describe the same person.

i'll just take "objective, informed" for what it usually really means on fan discussion boards "anyone who agrees with me" : )

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I say we just take it and use it to our advantage.***

Because they are one of the top 25 teams in 2014 based upon talent, coaching and schedule.
