The way I’ve read it, this will count as a separate tax credit when you file next year. It won’t be added to next years’ refund since you get it now, but also won’t increase your liability. Could be wrong, but that’s my interpretation.

both the payment you received and the credit - should be a wash unless you did not get a check - if your 2020 income is lower and you should have received a check or more than you did get, you will get that additional amount. The only thing I am not sure of is if you have not filed 2019 and they used 2018 to compute the amount.

the only thing I am not sure of is if they used 2018 to compute the payment, but I cannot find anything anywhere that says there is a payback.

than his 2018 taxes. Greenr hasn't filed 2019 in order to qualify for a check, or at least a larger check, from Honorable Donald J. Trump, Esq. Therefore, the difference in the check when calculating using 2018 income versus 2019 income may become a taxable amount in which I owe more money to the United States Government.

well, if 2020 gets you back to 2018 numbers, you should be fine. I cannot find anywhere that says they are going to do an adjustment if 2019 numbers would have not given you a payment. Still looking....

it talks about the 2018 vs 2019 tax returns. To me this means if 2019 is not filed yet, they are not going to look at it ever to see if you should have received less - whatever they send you will be a credit on your return - the only modification will be if the 2020 return computes more than you did receive, in which case you will get the excess.
I hate reading tax law, but this is my unpaid for interpretation.  ">">

It's a new tax credit that you otherwise would not have gotten without the act of Congress.
So on you taxes next year, you will be able to claim a $1200 (or whatever the amount) credit, but you will also say that you received the money already.

if you keyed in something incorrectly, that may be the same error.
I would look at your tax return and be sure to key exactly your Street address (if you abbreviated "Street" using "St", etc.)
Soc Security number should be keyed without "-"'s and "/" should be used in birthdate
|

Yeah, I put it all in right. Filed 2018 for sure and I think my accountant sent in my 2019 already. It's all good, apparently many many people seeing the same. I'm sure they're just rolling through SSNs and may take some time.

Apparently tons of people are getting this message. I've seen it speculated that it's only showing information if you already got your payment?
