Georgia Tech, USF, South Carolina recently spent in excess of $8 million each on their new softball facilities.

to start out with.
Get a small (but respectable...to recruit talent) that will be able to add on to in the future as it the team grows.
Without looking it up but I believe we are 1 of 2 schools in the ACC that doesn't have a softball team.

for a SoCon level field. In order for us to be able to recruit in the ACC and against SEC teams you are looking at spending at least what GT, So Carolina, etc. spent for theirs, probably more since we would be building from scratch.
If we are going to nickle and dime the program then we have no business starting one.

A facility alone would be millions of dollars. Add in the fact that we would have to reply primarily on recruiting out of state talent because the state of South Carolina doesn't produce anywhere near enough talent to support a program at a high level and the negatives far outweigh the positives.
Maybe in a decade or so after South Carolina grows it's talent base a little more it might be worth revisiting, but at the moment the talent just isn't there.
