Why did Oklahoma punt to us on 4th down late in game?

Jan 1, 2016, 1:33 AM

Did they just quit??

Obviously they couldn't win, but they had 4th & short at mid-field with 3 time outs and about 2 minutes left to narrow the score.

Instead they punted us deep and then just watched us take a knee to run out the clock.

What ever happened to fighting until the bitter end?

By the end of the game, we'd taken out their superhero quarterback & both running backs... Maybe it was just future planning? :)

You could see Stoops telling his players to "let it die."

We made them give up.

When they called a run on 2nd down I think

Jan 1, 2016, 1:36 AM

and didn't call a TO, it was obviously they didn't think they had a chance.

Which is sad, because if the UNC game told us anything, there's always a chance.

Clemson

The game was over. They thought Clemson might score again and didn't want further humiliation. Easy answer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They just wanted the beating to be over

Jan 1, 2016, 1:44 AM

Mayfield, Pieron (sp?), and Mixon (sp?) were all knocked out of the game. It could have gotten worse if they wanted us to keep playing.

Yep, that was their mindset. I heard Stoops say "UNCLE!!!!!" all the way up here in Wilmington.

Same reason we quit a few times, the game is over. Pretty classy to know when to concede and go home. Pretty good beatdown imo. Go Tigers, win it all!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To his credit, Stoops knew it was over.

Jan 1, 2016, 7:32 AM

Handled our last down with class as well (let DW4 buy time and throw the ball away to run out the clock).

THIS is what happens when you can't back up all the trash talking. Don't poke a sleeping TIGER. That is all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was for OU players.

Jan 1, 2016, 8:23 AM

There comes a time when a general knows that continuing the fight will cost more lives. He conceded the match but only after his boys has nothing left with which to fight.

It was a first class move, imo.

Stoops is a good guy...didn't want to prolong the inevitable

Jan 1, 2016, 9:09 AM

especially with all his start players hurt. The players never quit nor did he.

Re: Stoops is a good guy...

I have nothing against Bob Stoops.

But, just call me old school.

I think you go for it on 4th & short and at least try to lose with the ball still in your possession fighting to the end.

Dabo would never have tried to score on them again, even if they'd failed to convert on 4th at mid-field.

Throwing in the towel like that just didn't look too good on the Sooners IMHO.
