Why can't the number of playoff teams be fluid ??

Oct 20, 2015, 9:00 PM

Say, perhaps, all teams with 1-loss or less.

Make the regular season a double elimination tournament ... lose 2 games and you're done. (Get rid of all FCS games while we're at it)

2014 playoff would have included 6 teams:

Alabama, FSU, Oregon, TCU, Baylor, and Ohio State. Let a computer decide which 2 teams get the first round bye (in this example).

2015 there may only be 2, 3, 4 teams. But I think this would end all the debate on the subject.

I've been wrong two times, but this isn't one of them.

How can you really do a 3 team playoff? What if all 3 had

Oct 20, 2015, 9:16 PM

the same record? You're really going to give one of them a bye and double the odds of winning the title?

I'm sure I am in the minority

But, until all power 5 conferences are made to have a Championship Game, hence the 13th game, those that don't play 13 games should NOT be considered for the playoffs above a team from a conference that has a 13th game. If every win and every loss is subject to the "eye test " and the committee working under the guise of looking at a teams " body of work " how in the HEII does the glaring lack of a game a 13th not hurt those teams? Those teams (Big XII teams, Notre Dame ) motivation is completely and entirely all about the $$$. The BigXII conference not wanting to split revenues 12-14 ways and Notre Dame's independent status to preserve the lucrative NBC contract shouldn't be rewarded. Even if the ACC is the weakest conference, at least we play 13 games. Greed should not be rewarded period. In my opinion.
