Who knows Walter Wilkins - Solicitor Pickens County?

This elected officer of the court needs to get busy and prosecute the creeps that broke into Death Valley, smashed and stole Howard's Rock. If he can't put together a case in 7 months he needs to turn it over to someone who can. Enough is enough.

You do realize how understaffed and backlogged the courts are right? They arrest kids today for the most minor things that 30 years ago they would take you home to your parents to deal with you.

Yea it's crazy. They are now armed and equipped like they're fighting the Taliban. Plus they're far more militant.
I have never understood why they make arrest that they know they can't get a conviction on.... Why waste the courts time and money?

For what it's worth, Walt Wilkins is the nephew of David Wilkins, chairman of the board of trustees at Clemson.

After 9-11, many were all too willing to exchange liberty for security. The time will rapidly come when we will be left simply with tyrany and a police state.

Backlogged with plea bargains

That's how most of these cases are settled, good old judicial blackmail. Arrest someone, tell them they are going to trial unless they agree to, you know, whatever you're offering at the time, depending on how your morning went, and if you don't accept we are going to charge you with as much as you possibly can. Seriously, that type of shady work usually only takes 5 minutes to complete. They really need to be more industrious, maybe threaten 10 people at a time until they catch up.

only way the system can work. With the massive number of crimes that are committed, and a finite amount of resources, this is the only sort of system that can produces any semblance of justice. You have to give the criminals an incentive to plead guilty so that they don't all just ask for trials & clog up the system. This is the way it has always worked & there really is no alternative.
However, keep in mind that the "threat" to hold a trial carries no weight if the prosecutor doesn't have a strong case against you in the first place. Prosecutors can't just "threaten to try anyone." You actually have to have strong evidence to have any leverage in the first place & the plea offer has to be lighter that what the average judge would give the person if he pled guilty without a deal, otherwise he has no incentive to take the offer (might as well roll the dice at trial if you're not getting a better sentence by pleading guilty).
