Who gets paid $70,000 every minute?

Aug 13, 2019, 9:49 PM

Obviously not you.

[The numbers are mind-boggling: $70,000 per minute, $4 million per hour, $100 million per day.
That’s how quickly the fortune of the Waltons, the clan behind Walmart Inc., has been growing since last year’s Bloomberg ranking of the world’s richest families.
At that rate, their wealth would’ve expanded about $23,000 since you began reading this. A new Walmart associate in the U.S. would’ve made about 6 cents in that time, on the way to an $11 hourly minimum.

Does this make you sad, you poor little buttercup?

Well suck it up. You fools need to start your own morally bankrupt enterprise that exploits every employee and vendor transaction. This about winning at all costs, and if you want to keep up you need to be ready to be evil, sociopathic ########.

I wonder what percentage of that wealth is funded by government handouts, not just Tax Breaks. But say we eliminate welfare and food stamps, how much of a chunk of that wealth would the Walton's stand to lose?

Don’t be a chump, this game is about winning

Aug 13, 2019, 10:58 PM

Balm, didn’t you get the last clan e? Every possible exploit must be pursued for our survival.

How are we supposed to maintain a $4 Million dollar an hour salary!!! We will force US labor policy to bend to our will. Or else that tiny Bezos man wins and we just cannot allow that to happen!!

I've never understood why people get so wrapped around

the axle with how much money other people make - particularly the rich. In the case of the Walmart clan - do you think Sam Walton sat on his keester and did nothing to earn the rewards he and his heirs now reap? A long time ago, Sam Walton risked a lot to start his business and spent every waking hour for almost his whole life to make it successful. I ain't a big fan of Wal-Mart but they didn't become the biggest retailer in history by being lazy. If the Wal-Mart employees don't like what they are paid - then they can always quit.

The is whole "every job should provide a living wage", "the rich exploit laborers" and "make the rich pay their fair share", and other like slogans are nothing more than Marxist class warfare bait. Socialism, in all its forms, is the most insidious ideology ever created by the intellectual elites. It preys on the worst parts of human nature - jealousy and envy that is sustained through anger and hate that always results in human misery and suffering.

No. Sorry, but no.

The world is not black and white, Marxism and Capitalism...though, frankly, people with a simplistic worldview like to think it is because it's easier for them to wrap their heads around. Even more insidious are the folks who try to equate social progress with "Marxism".

"Marxism" is a wrongheaded philosophy based on high ideals that ultimately was not rooted in pragmatism. It doesn't work because it doesn't mesh with human nature at the end of the day. In the history of social progress it'll be listed as a dead end, a failed experiment. It sounded good to some at the time, it was tried...and it failed. Miserably. And it duly died like all failed systems do.

That doesn't mean unrestricted laissez-faire capitalism works either. History tells us exactly where that road leads. Child labor, social stratification, company store syndromes...and oh, yeah, a whole lot of that human misery and suffering you claim to care about.

There is nothing wrong with being rich, true. But if you're a free-market capitalist you need to ensure the markets are actually free so the small can actually compete with the large, and the large can't just bully the smaller fry off the pile.

You think basic survival is Marxism. It is stunning how much the rich have turned people against themselves.

They aren't paid that. The mythical value of their stock in

Aug 14, 2019, 8:04 AM

The company they own appreciates at that rate. Stocks tank and they're not paying anyone 70k per minute either. Just because my house appreciates $50k doesn't mean anyone has paid me 50k. But when I sell it, only then can I get paid that 50k. And even then depending on the amount of time I may well have paid an additional 50k in interest on the mortgage.

Blew my parents minds when I told them that after they sold their house. They bought it for $140k in 1981. Sold it for 400k in 2016. They were thrilled with their amazing profit until I reminded them that when they finished paying their 30 year mortgage a few years earlier that's almost exactly what they paid over time since 1981.

My house better be worth more than 650K in 30 years because that's what I'm scheduled to pay.

The Waltons really are some creeps and don't keep up the vision of old Sam. They have a massive doomsday bunker in Arkansas, and they work not only to actively destroy small businesses and screw over small towns with tax breaks, but they encourage all their employees to apply for welfare (and help them sign up) rather than giving them raises.

Sounds like they're visionaries keeping up with the times

I remember when they refused (back in the 80's) to buy imported goods, even though back then our debt subsidizing "free trade" partner was Japan. Later we added Mexico and Canada, before settling on China. Before Japan it was actually Malaysia, to a lesser extent.

Anyway, Wal-Mart would not be in business today if they kept only selling products made in the USA. Same goes if they had to pay their employees $15/hr. Same goes if they didn't help their employees get welfare. Same as....anyway, you get the picture, maybe.

I agree that they have not kept to Sam's vision.

Aug 15, 2019, 6:05 AM [ in reply to Re: Who gets paid $70,000 every minute? ]

He started Walmart with a banner hanging over the front door. It said, "MADE IN AMERICA" They should hang one now that says 'MADE IN CHINA"

The continuous flow of immigrants who have little or no skills is what makes Walmart able to fill those thousands of stores with workers.

Supply and demand, brother. As sure as gravity if we end illegal immigration, expel those who did not gain visas by applying and waiting their turn and limit the number of low skilled workers who enter this country the wages for Walmart workers will rise.
