I was at that game and vaguely remember the score, but I don't have quite the memory for the details.could be due the amount of rebel yell consumed before, during, and after the game.it was my last fb game at school.do remember listening to the usuc game the next week while trying to assemble the skeleton of a squirrel in the comp vert anatomy lab.finished the season on a good note, but unfortunately no bowl bid at 6-4.

Remembering it as well as I do shows how old I am. I remember a stiff wind nearly the whole game going west to east. A somewhat obnoxious State fan was in the west stands, imagine that. I forget my group- I forget whether it was students day or what. The dude had topped the tank and had a set of binoculars, fake on one side to sneak in booze. He had a brown hound tooth hat with a red wool pack feather in it. State kicker was pretty good and hit two field goals in the first half. One was pretty long, approaching 50 yards and apparently the guy was all conference. Dude in the stands slapped his leg with the hat and whooped “Boy do we have a kicker!”
Incidentally, the students put up more fraternity signs in those days. One said “half God’s children wear white shoes!” To mock State since only these D wore the white shoes. The decision on the orange paint was last minute But one of the organizations got the word and did a banner “All God’s children wear orange shoes!”
3D quarter Clemson got the wind and I recall the Buddy Gore TD reception was more like a modern wheel route to the left sideline. CU scores again and it became clear in the 4th that State had no answer.
Dude with the hat and fake binocs kept saying “l’m still betting on the Wolfpack. I’ll bet anyone $50!” Great game, Howard’s last championship.

I remember the pep rally the night before the game...

moving to College Ave in front of the Theatre. I was jammed up against a University Police Officer... I asked if I could blow his whistle, and he gave it to me. It was a mob scene. My freshman year at Clemson...

I remember this game as if it was yesterday. I lived in Greensboro at the time and had made friends with a gentleman named English whose son was a backup quarterback on the team. He gave me advance notice of the shoe thing and I remember that I almost didn't get a ticket for that game It was a fantastic day ... Just as Saturday will be. Be There. Support Clemson.

white shoes!". When the Tigers came down the hill, a huge banner on the fence at the bottom was unveiled. It read "All Frank's chill'uns wear orange shoes!".

I was there as usual, and when the fans saw those orange shoes, they made enough noise to awaken anyone in Pickens County who were taking an afternoon nap.
One other time we were playing NC State in Clemson, probably in the late 1950's or early 60's, when there was a torrential rain that morning. Just before the 1:00 PM the sun came out and the game was played with blue skies overhead.

Sam Blackman really did have a lot of information on old Clemson games. I miss his sections with Mickey.

discovered the usefulness of paragraphs.
I remember that game well.
NC State was obnoxious even then. They had a sign that said, "A little ##### never hurt the Pack"! They ran around the field waving it. I think some student jumped from the stands and shortened its life.
