you are in reference to a historical fact. References to the known TNet elderly are OK, but be sure not to pull any strategically-placed banana peels....don't want any feelings to be bruised...

I recall Bomb Blast Drills during the Cuban Missile Crisis and remember watching the news when JFK was assassinated.
We lived in the Los Angeles TV market and only got 5 channels on the Teley. I remember our 1st colored TV, the Wizard of Oz and the Lawrence Welk Show.

So was I. Mr. Gantt started during the second semester of my freshman year.
Can't find any thing online as to what happened on my exact birth date. Do know my father was piloting B-25's out of New Guinea in the South Pacific, on bombing raids against Japanese ships, and had to be notified via a telegram.

At not quite 6 I didn't understand what was going on, but it was about all you could hear on radio. I can remember a Republican saying, "Dewey, Dewey, he's our man, Truman stinks like a garbage can."

in 1956 Orange Bowl Classic. We lost but after stinking in first half, we got moral victory by coming back and making it close in second half. Halfback Joel Wells was our star. Charlie Bussy was our QB, back in the days when 3 yds. and a cloud of dust was the strategy.

About 2 months after I entered Clemson College, it was announced that it would become a university a few months later. The pool was drained to build the Cooper Library, and we walked through the dry bed to English and math classes. I was walking through there to my 2 PM English 101 class and heard a guy yell to a friend that JFK had been shot in Dallas. I didn't believe it but learned that it was true a few minutes later when our prof confirmed it.
No classes were cancelled the following Monday or Tuesday, but the administration requested that tests scheduled for that Monday be postponed.
We gathered in the dorm lounge to watch the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and roared with laughter every time one shook his moppy head. We considered them real freaks. ROTC was still a big thing, and we all had short hair.
We had a snow storm during the middle of exams the next year, but no exams were postponed. It wasn't easy studying with so many playing in the snow outside.

Student tickets were some of the best seats in DV, anyone could basically walk over the LJ and get a free ticket to a BB game (not UNC) and getting into Clemson was still something to be proud of, but wasn't reserved for out of state kids with a perfect GPA. Seriously, Clemson was at one time a school for the best and brightest kids of South Carolina. While I am proud of everything thing that Clemson has accomplished, it has followed the pattern of our state and the rest of the south. Too much outside influence. (NO this isn't a Civil War, racist rant) I just miss the old ways some days. Sometimes I wish Willis Carrier would have become a doctor. Not today, too dang hot.

as 8th grader (1963?) along side the excellent 6'5" Jim Sutherland. Pete was only about 5' 8" and was not shy about shooting. I think he Dad Press got promoted to NC State, and Pete started playing at H.S. in Raleigh, then after that Press got promoted to LSU, carried by his Son's ability.

I remember the program, “Sky King” on television, as well as the late Leslie Nielsen of “Airport” the film portraying Francis Marion on the “Wonderful World of Disney.” A haircut cost less than a dollar and gasoline in SC was no more than twenty-seven cents a gallon! At age six I attended my first Tiger football game in 1959.
Death Valley was a totally different place! This was well before either upper deck, yet I recall being in what seemed the biggest crowd like attending the actual county fair growing up in Rock Hill. The impressions of a mere child!
Go Tigers!

Actually, I taught him all he knew about tossing coins and chopping cherry trees.
Later on, I was around to enter Clemson in 1965, after finally graduating from Rock Hill High. (For you older Rock Hillians that was the high school on East White Street, and my senior class was the last one at that location.)

When I was a freshman at Clemson, a contractor came in the 'men's dorm' looking for someone to "hold the end of a 50' tape measure" so that he could define/order the seat installation for Littlejohn......we measured every one of the concrete tiers inside the newly constructed coliseum........and he paid me an easy $20.
